Virgin Media retention deals (post your haggling successes)

Hi all,
my player bundle (100 broadband, player TV, talk weekend) @ £30 a month is coming to an end at the end of november.
I cant recall if I received any letters about a price increase but I was just after some advice.
I only really need broadband as dont really watch TV or use a homephone (both are actually unplugged!)
What should I aim for re a broadband package? (broadband and phone if necessary)?
Seems like some people here have a sub £20 broadband only package and that would be ideal I think but anyone with other packages or thoughts?
Thanks!
I requested phone to be taken off my account as never used landline. After cancelling, I received a call the following day from retentions and was pleased to get £24 for 100mb BB only, with 2 months free after a little of persuasive pushing. Some have got better but I was happy with that. So effectively costing £20/month which I'm more than happy with. It's retentions or outbound team you need to chat with who only call you, otherwise the 'deals' you will be offered won't be as good.
Hope it helps and good luck.0 -
I have recently switched to virgin and am very happy, my internet speeds are the quickest I have ever had, and virgin also do a referral system, I have paid my first 3 bills referring friends. U get £50 credit for referring someone, and they also get £50 for being refered by a virgin customer. So If you know anyone get referring and get your bills paid. I can provide the details on how to do this0

I have been with Virgin Media for many years, as I don't really understand technology and I can't haggle and wouldn't know how to go about changing. Also, i have the landline, TV and broadband all together, which is what I want. However, my new price is £61 per month, which seems to be a total rip off. I don't do fancy things, just watch TV, browse the internet, send a few emails and make phone calls (no international stuff)..
How can I get them to reduce the monthly price? I am not a confident or assertive person, but I know that I am being ripped off. I couldn't cope with the upheaval that changing suppliers would entail, so I have to get my Virgin Media charge reduced. It will be hard enough to make the initial call, so how should I appproach it with them? Any kind advice would be welcome and much appreciated.
Thank you.0 -
I had full house tv with movies, 200mb broadband and anytime calls for 43 a month. Was going up to something ridiculous like £90 so cancelled. They didn't call until 2 days before I was due to go.
They wouldn't keep my package on the price I'm paying, best they could do for £43 was unlimited calls, 100mb broadband and full house tv minus movies. Don't think it was that great but they wouldn't budge so I agreed.0 -
What happens when you cancel ?
Are you giving 30 days notice to cancel, so you stay on your current package until it cancels and have 30 days to change your mind ?0 -

As I said at the end of my comment, some people seem to be able to extract bargain basement deals and others don’t, even having put in a cancellation. I’d love to know why the inconsistency, but it’s one of the reasons I ditched everything else. Even the assistants in the shop agreed with that point.
All to do with usage, high end user you have no chance of a deal.
I cancelled, no callback, on last day I phoned them and they didn't even bother to attempt to keep me. So I left them.0 -

Not true in my experience. I sometimes accept the deal from cancellations as it's good enough for me. If I can get £21 a month for 50Mbps and this despite having a high usage, they must still be willing. I don't know what they consider 'high usage', but I have been known to eat over 1TB in a month. (FYI, I think they wanted £26 or £28 for 100Mbps, which I still think was a reasonable price, but OTT for me). Maybe I won't get quite as good a deal, but still far better than accepting their defaults, and still cheaper than I could get elsewhere.The_Flying_General wrote: »I did cancel and had 4 calls from Retentions all of which were whilst I was at work or they dropped out after 20s.

I try to arrange my 'cancellation' when I'm going to have some time off work, or at least be able to get to the phone quickly throughout the day.
Are you sure it was 'retentions' you spoke to while in the store? Could it be that despite what they said, you only got put through to the normal 'leaving' department? Maybe one of those that try to call you would have been able to offer something better. One of those 'you'll never know' moments.0 -
Cancelled yesterday as best offer for Full House TV incl BT Sport, Sky Sports, basic phone (incl line rental), 100mb broadband was £82pm. Had call from outbound loyalty team today and agreed £57pm. Not amazing but decentish, about £4pm more than my last deal with outbound.
Interestingly they called me on my Virgin landline. They normally always call my mobile. She said they did have my mobile on their system and did not know why the call had been made to my landline this time (apparently there is a ‘dialler’ that automatically connects her to me as opposed to her physically looking up my details and choosing which number to ring).0 -
Stayed with Virgin in the end; 100Mb BB for £22/month. Really happy with that. Hasn't been so cheap since the first year I joined them.
Wanted to keep TV as well, as it's easier than faffing about reconnecting the aerial in the loft to the living room, and setting the YouView box back up. But they wanted too much for it considering what's included.0
