I’m approaching renewal haggling time but will be moving house soon as well. If I haggle a good retention deal can I take it to my new house (which has Virgin available)?

Sorry to hijack this thread but I am wondering if anyone has been able to haggle a better deal if they just have phone and broadband with them??

I have just got the new bill for next month which is £50.99 which I feel is a little bit excessive for what I have got

Talk Unlimited Free Voicemail VIVID 100 Optical Fibre Bundle Charges total £31.99
    Phone line rental total
    £19.00

    Your package total £50.99

I have looked online in my account and can't see any contract that I am tied too.

I don't really use the phone anymore but not sure of how much of saving you be able to get without...

Or is there anywhere I can get a better deal?

    Thanks for help

Just got the callback from retentions after about 6 missed calls over the past 2 days. They seemed extremely keen to sign us for 12 months so offered:

    100mb £23pm
    200mb: £27pm
    350mb: £30pm

12 month contract with discounts applied for 18 months if we stayed beyond the contract term. We were paying £43pm for 200mb so we decided to go for the 300mb option. Saved money and got a better speed!

Quoted exactly the same when retentions phoned. I was on (after upgrades) 200mb for £21.99/month.

I told them I still wasn't happy paying more for 100mb so the guy offered 2 months free for 12 month contract @ £24. I went with that as 100mb is still more than fine for me. Equals about £20/month which I'm happy with and price of £24/month remains for 18 month contract.

Without even going through the cancellation routine, you should be able to beat that. Just phone them up and say you're thinking of leaving for BT Infinity or somebody similar (just quote a current offer) and see what they say. I did that and have VIVID 100, talk anytime (not bothered with voicemail) for £41 including line rental. New 12 month contract, but I can live with that and will probably try the cancellation game when it ends. Not the greatest deal, but adequate for my needs and I like the Talk More Anytime, as it includes all UK mobile numbers.
I don't really need the 100Mbps, but the upload speed of 6Mbps is useful and I even get that over a WiFi connection, when the download speed is reduced. If VM say you won't get 100Mbps with BT Infinity, say maybe not, but they offer 9Mbps upload with their 50Mbps download, and 18 up with 67 down.

I get 37.7Mbps download, 9.4Mbps upload and 17ms ping from my upto 38Mbps NowTV fibre. This never seems to vary (although through WiFi on my phone the upload stays the same but the download drops to 26Mbps for some reason, limited by the phone maybe?).

Don't let the headline speeds of Virgin blind you as a consistent speed is much more important than one that varies wildly.
  • Totally forgot my broadband offer had run out and been paying £40 a month for vivid200 the last couple of months any advice on what price roughly I should be looking to haggle down too? Any help appreciated

Once I put in my cancellation, retentions phoned a few days later. Very quick call and since I was on 200mb BB only, they immediately could do £27/month or 100mb @ £24/month.

I said it's not as good as what I could get elsewhere, so he offered a couple months free for either speeds, so I opted for 100mb. It's locked in for 12 months, but will be that price for 18 months, so I'll decide what to do next May.

    Hope it helps. Good luck.

I had exactly the same experience. Called up to cancel as we were paying £97 per month for the full TV package with Sky Cinema HD, Sky Sports HD, BT Sports & 100mbps internet. Was offered a better deal of £66 so decided to accept. Later, both Sky Sports and Cinema had been removed.

Chatted online, they said it's not included in the package!

Put in a complaint through resolver and had a call from their complaints team within days. They dug out the call and agreed that the agent said 'everything would remain the same' so they reinstated sports and cinema.

Then realised HD has not been reinstated. Called the complaints team back only to be told we need to pay extra for that. Despite explaining they had agreed everything would remain the same, they weren't interested in putting the services back.

As a result, decided to cancel the whole package.

Call from retentions today to explain the box for the router would be sent out in the post. No counter offers to stay.

    Shambles really.

I cancelled my vm contract, 2 days later retention team called to try to keep me. Was offered new v6, fh tv, 100 bb, TiVo upstairs, anytime calls and sky sports for 12 months £54 (was paying £80 before). I accepted. Engineer came and updated and fitted equipment last Saturday. Today we discover we have no sky sports. On calling the really obnoxious, rude and unhelpful customer services team, I was told there was no deal on my account for sky sports. I am liar then! Ryan wouldn!!!8217;t let me speak to supervisor or escalate my claim. I still have 5 days of my 14 day cooling off period left. Ryan told me I could give my notice, but account would revert to £80 old payment. I!!!8217;m fuming. How do I escalate this please? All I can find so far is the retention!!!8217;s team who were rubbish.
