    Good morning

I have just gone to the coop and got 2 free 6 packs of walkers with my vouchers.
I must admit with regards to car damage as I live in a busy town I have broken a few number plates with my tow bar while parking and then drove off quickly to find a new parking space.

    Shame on you......
but this is a little more than a clipped number plate!

    Karma.....

I guess the question is ...would you happily live alongside a neighbour that you knew you had caused damage to their vehicle and who also knows you did it?

DS's car is 18 months old we bought it new for him just before he took his test...it's his pride and joy and he wouldn't even take it to uni for fear of it being abused or damaged....

I'm still trying to compose him a text...but I think it may be better to phone later....
I really am hoping that they will be good to their word and bring the insurance details round....but there is this niggling bit of me that thinks if they didnt own up to it last night when they did it,they will only try to distance themselves from it now.....I shall send OH round tonight.

what a scumbag...there is a lot of it about.

OK...so I've reported it to the insurance....sadly no one has cctv but the neighbour has said to me that the car was hit last night by them.
I now need to provide their contact details to the insurance company once they are given to me.

MHOC....I would have though that a crime number was needed as yes technically they have left the scene of an accident, but apparently not as there have been no injuries!

Technically I've been told the neighbour is at fault but without them confirming their details the claim must go though on our policy (with 150 excess) until they admit liability...

It is going to need to be an insurance claim as the damage extends across the back bumper which is moulded plastic and onto the back side panel which is not.

HO HUM.....fingers crossed please everyone that we can get some good vibes and this person will pass their details on.

Did the insurance company not ask for the third parties car registration number? They can be traced through that. I would still report it to the police, particularly as you have photos of the damage etc. Hopefully the police may have a look and 'match up' the damage. Let your neighbours know that it has been reported to both police and insurance company. Apart from the excess payable, there may be loss of no claims/loading when it is up for renewal.

To be honest we never see or speak to our neighbours as that's the way life is now.

Well hopefully not everyone shares your ethos....

I guess the saving grace is that they have also damaged their car in the process, but I guess it's all becomes a little more palatable when their car is 10 years older than DS's.

Thanks MKS.....Whilst they didnt ask for a crime number I am now wondering if it might be an extra thing to do....there will be no harm in reporting it...even if its just a case of giving me the satisfaction of letting the neighbour know It's been reported.

You'd be advised to do it, they could turn round and say that someone driving your DS's car damaged theirs.
