You'd be advised to do it, they could turn round and say that someone driving your DS's car damaged theirs.
DS's car has been parked in the same place for the last 10 days....and the keys to it our in our safe so whilst unlikely I take your point.....it's also fitted with a black box that will back up the journeys it does which are very few at the moment.

OK...so I've reported it to the insurance....sadly no one has cctv but the neighbour has said to me that the car was hit last night by them.
I now need to provide their contact details to the insurance company once they are given to me.

MHOC....I would have though that a crime number was needed as yes technically they have left the scene of an accident, but apparently not as there have been no injuries!

Technically I've been told the neighbour is at fault but without them confirming their details the claim must go though on our policy (with 150 excess) until they admit liability...

It is going to need to be an insurance claim as the damage extends across the back bumper which is moulded plastic and onto the back side panel which is not.

HO HUM.....fingers crossed please everyone that we can get some good vibes and this person will pass their details on.

A thought occurs to me but its not a good one.
If the neighbour had been drinking (or taking drugs) at the time of the incident then he would not report it at the time - so he would not have been tested. If so he could still have reported it this morning if he had any conscience.
Or if he had been texting ...

I think, if it was me I would hold off ringing your son until you know for sure what is happening, until you hear back from the insurance company.
So hopefully later today/tommorow when you ring you can say - this has happened, Ive reported it to the police and insurance company, insurance company have arranged for it to be collected and repaired on x day ...
Are you insured to drive it? I am thinking about the practicalities of getting it to the garage

Also if the other car of your neighbour is 15 years old, I am wondering what damage he has done to his own car?
When Eldest son went off the road, slippery road, because of the age of the car, it went to an assement centre approved by the insurance company who decided it was only worth scrap value so they gave him a figure he had to agree to. At least he was given a hire car that week while it was all sorted out.

I was thinking overnight that I should keep the line rental and fibre bit but cancel the TV bit - it seems a bit if a half way house but I know
but I could totally go through with this plan if sky would not play ball.

I think I will give them another ring and see what figures they give me. The annoying thing is OH is first named on the account so they ask to speak to him first before they will discuss the account with me :(
Cancel the lot. You can always call up the day before disconnection to cancel the cancel.

OH and I are both named drivers, but we only tend to use DS's car occasionally....basically I have the family car and OH a motorbike...so all bases are covered...

Mhoc....you're quite right about once a car gets over a certain age it becomes less cost effective to repair and thats possibly the case with the neighbours car.....so it will be my assumption that they will be driving round with something that has a lovely scratched bumper....some of it may T cut out but I'm hoping that the fact that each time they look at me will be enough to remind them of what they have done...I can be quite obliging that way!!

as for drink or drugs....I suppose it's each to their own on that front but in honesty it just looks like on the first attempt at getting into the space they hit the car and as they panicked and drove out they possibly hit it a second time so they drove off and found another nearish place to park easier.....I just don't think they thought I would confront them with the damage at 8am this morning or they realised that they left the colour of their car embedded in the bumper and back panel.

    another question pretty please.

I've been trying to figure put where Errant sons tax office is and google said
"From your PAYE reference. The first 3 digits of this identify which tax office you need to deal with. Enter your 3 digit tax office code"
    http://www.numberscount.org.uk/tax.asp

On his pay sheet it just says
    reference number 06378

I don't know if this is the PAYE reference or just a works number and putting 063 into the box does not come up with anything. I tried IE11 and google chrome incase it was a browser issue

Am I being very dense again???

I know you can change your address online for HMRC purposes but I think he needs to write a letter to update them of other things.
In fact I suspect that he is still registered under the home address as I cant imagine him ever getting around to letting HMRC know of his kent address last year.

We got worried about where the P60 (End of Year Certificate) is going to be sent to this morning hence the need to make sure HMRC know the change of circumstances and address etc.

I also suspect that he has paid some student loan repayments even though his total earnings for 2016/2017 where under the threshold. So far he has managed to find one payslip from 08/2016 which would be the first one so its not a typical month. He is trying to get hold of the rest of his payslips so we can check. I thought that they were all sent via encrypted email but apparently not or at least he does not have them.
He also said he printed off his payslips but he has no idea where they are :(

He has emailed HR and so eventually we will have a full set of payslips to check. Then when the P60 arrives he can send a photocopy of them and also of his payslips off to the student loans place in Glasgow and possibly get any payments refunded.

Yes I know, we tell our offspring a zillion times about keeping their HMRC papers, payslips and paperwork all organised, filed and up to date and it falls on deaf ears.

I am not annoyed about it, its only what I expected. if he had been in touch last year I would have been reminding him but he wasn't.
But this sort of knotty problem I like dealing with as its fairly easy to sort out when you have all of the evidence gathered together.

Its also a good distraction - keeps the mind occupied and stops you focussing on the issues that cant be so easily resolved ...

We will have to pay £100 excess. It's just the back panel but that has 4 sensors in so they will have to be done too. :(

And then another thought occurs ...

I've had a couple of letter through from building society/bank with annual statement of the total amounts of interest earned- these I've just filed in the folder with all of the other banks paperwork as I tend to file as they come in.

Now I am thinking I need to make an excel list of what annual statements are due, dates and then keep these together in a separate folder as they come in - as a pre-emptive strike incase HMRC do find my efforts at saving "interesting" enough and feel the need for me to complete a tax form.
And then I could make an online folder and scan everything in - good IT practice if nothing else and then I'd have backed up evidence in 2 places.

anyway Errant son has gone off to work again as he got another days work through the agency

As you can tell we have been having another sort out morning plus a bit more paperwork.

He has not heard back from the interview he had yesterday yet but that was to be expected. On the specialist website only one new job has appeared. This one is in Exmoor and looks similar to the in the lakes he also has an application form to complete.
The new one though only has an annual salary of £16 thousand :( - the others have been between £18 and £21 k maybe up to £23k
I don't know why this new one is so much below what seems to be industry standard as it looks no different.
I used the MSE calculator and it would work out at £257 a month less than the take home he had in kent which is an awful big drop in money.
He is thinking of applying even so as any job is still a job and more experience but from £1,113 monthly wage less say £400 in rent in a house share, groceries, mobile, car insurance and fuel and all the other essentials it would not be an easy life.
Hopefully though he will get a response from yesterday interview and we will be worrying for nothing ...:D

our excess is £150....its not so much the fact that we have to pay the excess,it's more that next year when the insurance is due for renewal premiums are very likely to go up and DS will lose his NCD....Thats likely to hit hard because he only passed his test 18 months ago and is still only 19....

In some ways if he had damaged the car whilst driving I would have said "lesson learnt" and get him to suck up the additional costs ....but the poor chap is 300 miles away and left his car here for safe keeping!
The unfairness is that some people just don't have a conscience.

I hadn't thought about the camera sensors ....I think they are around the numberplate area so I'm off to have a check of those now.

ETA...They all see ok and the camera works too....it seems thats all mounted at the top of the numberplate under a casing so well protected.I can however see what appers to be an almost perfect imprint of the other cars fog lamp scratched right into the bumper so there must have been quite an impact.

Did someone just drive into your car too?
