Can I ask the Elite what the current protocol is when your children marry......who pays for what these days?

I promise this is not for me....I think my two are years away from that but a friend has asked me and I haven't got a clue.

If you have a son, should you offer to contribute to the wedding?

Any advice will be passed on:)

    Off for a catch up

    Hey....it's been red hot today:T:T

I don't think it has changed that much. If the happy couple are already living together then the costs are down to the couple with parents offering ' help'.
I think it is quite rare nowadays for them not to be living together but if they are not then leaving it to father of bride to pay for whole thing seems extreme in this day and age.
I think a fair few families now give the happy couple a budget of what they are happy to pay this comes from bride and grooms sides. Anything on top of that is down to the couple.

So if you have a son and they are living together it is technically down to son and bride to pay, if bride still lives at home whereas traditionally her father would pay for everything a donation from the grooms family is welcomed.

We paid for dd wedding despite them living together a short time. The groom paid normal groom expenses and his parents nothing. Was our only daughter and she paid for some things herself.
My dsis son is getting married next year. They live together. Her parents are buying the dress and nephew and his fiancee must pay for everything. D sis not offering money as would get blown on extra stuff. She prefers to wait and pay off some of the debt afterwards. All very well but this way she is not included in the planning (her choice) but also has no say over invitations.

The trouble comes when brides want more than their modest budget will pay for.

Your friend should offer if she wants to (or asked) providing she is happy with wedding going ahead. If she has very little money she must not get herself in debt over it. Best to say she will pay for photographers or wedding cake.

You can Google modern wedding etiquette and see what it says.

I don't plan on paying when either of my son's get married. If they have lived with bride then they will pay as a couple and if not I know they will make contributions.

i have just endured one of the most nerve racking and frightening 6 hours of my life..
I broke down on the A10 on the way to London, going along at 60mph then all of a sudden no power!!..the car died...
A lovely lady PC:A helped me push the car onto the grass verge, this was at 5.30pm and after phone calls i waited and waited and waited til 8pm when help finally arrived..but the recovery man could do nothing, the car needed a garage:(...so again i waited and waited till nearly 9.30pm when the breakdown truck arrived..but they would either take me home or take the car to the garage..so off to the garage it was and DH at nearly 11.30 had to drive and pick me up.
The frightening part was stuck on the side of the road with lorries thundering passed and cars bombing along as if they were in todays grand prix, It became better as it got dark--but that is when i felt very vulnerable:eek:, not much traffic:eek: no street lighting:eek: and no moon :eek:and i was starting to get cold the only company was the tick tick of the hazard warning lights...and then these lights headed towards me blinding me, i made sure the doors were locked and by this time was sitting in the passenger seat, a motorcyclist drew up beside me and asked if i was ok and then went on his way, it was very kind of him but initially the lights gave me the collywobbles as he drove up to my car:eek:.
Well at least i home again now but carless, so off to London tomorrow by train...:)
:eek::eek::eek: thats my biggest fear, glad you are ok though although car less:( hope you dont have to wait too loong and its not too expensive

    Morning all:D

Morning all, hope everyone is well.

Can I please ask if anyone knows what restrictions are for selling on of packaged sweets ? For example if I opened a tin of quality street, split them down & packaged nice for Christmas. Am I allowed to sell on like this ? Tia xx
