I am saying that two 2016 V11 documents in front of me and the government online website dont ask for insurance documentation (unless the vehicle is in N.I.) , you asked for that type of proof on page 2 and I have it in front of me in firefox and on 2 pieces of paper from the DVLA sent to my family in 2016

so at the moment it seems everybody that has replied is correct, except you

so the burden of proof to the contrary is now upon you , I will be checking your statements next sunday when my lad comes and taxes his vehicle using the details on this current june 2016 V11

And I am looking at a 2016 V11 and it is incorrect as said.
Maybe yours are correct regarding charges.

Mine says to tax the vehicle for May 1st 2016 for 12 months costs
    £225.00
    The new charge is £230

    Payment confirmation email
    Application Made On: 30/04/2016 09:52:23
    Vehicle Tax Period: 12 months
Vehicle Tax Amount Paid: GBP 230.00

So, does the V11 for your son state the old charge or the new charge. You will discover that when you pay online

Fine but nothing to do with cars already registered

my sons vehicle is pre 2001 so the charge has stayed the same and I checked this earlier as I said in a previous reply because I checked to see if the details on this V11 renewal notice were the same as the online website knowing that some charges had been changed and even my son wasnt sure if it had "gone up"

but even if the charge was different , there are no requirements for an insurance document or reference number on either, nor on the government website, nor on the post office website

I would suggest you butt out until you get a reply from the dvla because everything I have read says it changed in december 2013

Charming ...... and I will post the reply from the DVLA in full as your comments concern me that a car can be taxed without insurance when the authorities are trying to crack down on uninsured drivers.

Take a breath, you will get your reply

I dont have a problem with your stance on that matter and until tonight I believed this was the case until reading all the other replies saying it was no longer the case

I even told my lad this 2 weeks ago before he received his V11 as we were sorting out his MOT and insurance at the time

4 years ago I helped him put the vehicle back on the road from SORN, where I had to take his MOT and insurance document and some form to the old licensing centre next to old trafford, wait in line and pay for the tax disc which was written out or printed out at the time

so I know for a fact that your version of events was correct 4 years ago and I didnt realise they had changed it myself

but having read the comments earlier and checked the paperwork and the online websites I realised that what people were telling you was now correct

so I agree that the check was a good one and I agree with your reservations about its removal, but it does not change the fact that it appears to have been made as obsolete as the tax disc

I also look forward to the fudged reply they will send you, how its government policy and "not their fault"

The email has been sent to the DVLA, even if it is a fudged response, it will be in black and white so everyone will know.
God forbid that the DVLA are allowing honest drivers who pay for insurance to be subject to unlimited uninsured drivers

No, I received the reminder in April due for 1st May, nothing has changed since then.
Are you seriously saying that the DVLA will tax an uninsured car ?

For my safety on the road regarding uninsured drivers, I have emailed the DVLA for their comments and will post their reply here

Do you honestly think that a knowingly uninsured driver is going to bother about taxing and mot-ing their vehicle, what would be the point ? If they are driving without insurance they are more than likely not to have the other two.
FWIW I bought a car in April and the garage I bought it off taxed it for me without seeing any insurance docs. (I only insured it the day I collected it, yet they taxed it 4 days earlier.

You have already been told that uninsured drivers now get caught out by the Continuous Insurance Enforcement.

The old scheme you keep referring to (whereby you had to show your insurance cert to tax your car) was open to obvious abuse (once you got your tax disc you could cancel your insurance)

Now all cars are automatically regularly checked to ensure they are covered by insurance or SORN, and action is taken if no insurance is in place at any time throughout the year

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Your (typical) continued refusal to stand corrected over the dangerous/scaremongering/sensational posts you are making over MOT certificates just bring this forum into disrepute.

Telling the OP he was uninsured/faced jail etc is just more of your rabble rousing, and fortunately your continued stance (of being the only one in step) at least will have convinced the OP and any other Newbies to ignore your "advice" now and in future.
