£100 fine for no Mot.....worth taking to court???

the information on this current V11 seems correct to me and matches the details on their website https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax which was updated in april 2016
nowhere does anything state that electronic checks for valid insurance will be done (which I agree they used to do) - I have no doubt that checks are made and their website details that they run searches for uninsured vehicles, plus they regularly do the same for MOT and TAX too
neither their website nor their current paperwork indicate a requirement for an insurance document EXCEPT for Northern Ireland
so whilst I agree it used to be the case, it seems its no longer the case
the only person on here who seems to think that its still the case is BG
you normally find people tell it like it used to be, so if a P.C. knew it was the case 5 years ago, he or she may think its still the case, due to not having kept up with government changes (you see the same issues on here where people still refer to "fines" and how they ignored parking charges in 2011 or 2009 , assuming its still the same)0 -
Agreed, trouble is, how many people know what the FSA state and how many would query when an insurance company says "you did not have a valid MOT"
Allowing your MOT to expire and then taking your car out on the road does NOT mean you are driving uninsured!0 -

I cannot say if the DVLA are telling porkies, you are not talking about the normal tax of a vehicle
the average policeman knows %uck all
You may be right but this was a motorway cop car equipped with
the latest tech, hardly average
It is quite normal for there to be a delay on the MID database
YES, that is for you and me
scenario : car on drive , ring insurance at 10am , and wait 3-4 days for it to appear on database?
FOR YOU yes
NO the insurance is not checked by the DVLA when taxing a car
It is .... when I purchased my car, the dealer applied for the tax online and required my insurance policy details

It was .... when I purchased my car, the dealer applied for the tax online and required my insurance policy details
and how long ago was that ? I suspect maybe 1 to 6 years ago , when it WOULD have been a requirement at that time0 -

The V11 as of April stated a different price to online which was due to the budget hence the posted V11 was incorrect.
I have that V11 and the email with the extra charge
I have no idea what the posted reminder says now as I have paid0 -
but I do because as I have stated I have the latest version that arrived last week and the details match their website as I checked those details this evening
you stated you have just taxed your vehicle for 12 months, then you state it was in april that you did this , which is not "just" but is 2 months ago
my sons arrived last week and is due to be paid by the end of the month , so is a june 2016 V11 form, but I also checked mine which was feb 2016 and although the 2 are different there wasnt and still isnt a requirement for an insurance document on either
there isnt a requirement on the government website either, so at the moment all the proof proves you wrong (and that policeman too)
as quentin says, you should apologise and move on
I shall find and update this thread when he taxes his car online next sunday0 -

Where do you get that from, this weekend I ordered a new Lexus and
they require insurance info0 -

No, I received the reminder in April due for 1st May, nothing has changed since then.
Are you seriously saying that the DVLA will tax an uninsured car ?
For my safety on the road regarding uninsured drivers, I have emailed the DVLA for their comments and will post their reply here0
