Thank you all so much for all your support. You're all superstars. Happy New year to everyone.

The pre op went fine and I have a date for the op. 9th January.:eek:

I'm going to do some sorting out today. I always get the urge on new years day. It would be nice to make a difference in the house before being chopped up.

    Enjoy your day everyone. Xxx

    Slinks in........

Sorry, I've been side tracked by a hospital stay for surgery which didn't go ahead fully and the decluttering thread.

It's been a strange start to the year. I can't believe that we are half way through January. It's crazy how fast time is passing.

I have definitely got my sorting out mojo on. I cannot live in this mess antly longer and quite frankly because of all the stuff and clutter I can't clean properly so it's dirty. I have started to chuck, recycle and donate but it's going to take a while as I get tired quite quickly. It needs to be done though because any repairs and improvements can't be done until it's clear.

I'm starting with the easy areas such as the sitting room (i want this room done as i would like to hire the rug doctor on wednesday to clean the carpet), bathroom, hall and stairs. I think with a push they could be completed today. Well cleared of clutter and a basic clean. Tomorrow I would like to try and sort the kitchen. It's not too bad but needs some work. It's falling apart to be honest. It was put in during the early 60s and I have no working draws. Also the sink unit is collapsing so it's never going to look nice but if I can keep it tidy.......

Then it's the big areas such as the front/junk room and cellar.:eek::eek:

Now the bedrooms. We have a problem with the neighbours barking dog at the moment so have had to change bedrooms with DS. It looks like a squat upstairs as its such a mess but until the problem is sorted I'm stuck. I can go through the draws and wardrobes though and get rid of some stuff. I also have a third bedroom which is another junk/dumping room which needs sorting.

My goodness, it all sounds like hell but it has to be done. I'm going to get this sorted. I'm very motivated and just want to change how I live.

I hope you are all well and everything is going good for you all.

I am redo. I've just had enough.

I'm doing bits then having a break. The sitting room and bathroom are much better. DS socks are still out of control so I may sort them this afternoon. I have some washing to hang to dry and the last bits to wash so that's all ok. I will definitely be hitting the bad areas tomorrow. It may take a few weeks but it will be done. I really want it done so come the spring I can focus on the garden.

Some lunch then a bit more focus.

Good to see you back here parsnip. :) Your motivation always motivates me, and in fact I think we probably have twin kitchens. :D Except in mine the cupboards collapse and the tiles are half gone, instead of the drawers falling to bits. Do you have standard sized drawers? Mine aren't so I can't add the ones I'd like (not enough depth to do a remake either) but I noticed drawers can be bought as flat packs so you may have an option there.

Our sink unit is definitely very elderly too... the chrome has worn off the circle round the plug hole, the colour has faded completely from the top of the taps, the tiles have come off one area and aren't replaced because when we replaced the outside door, it's stronger than the rest of the wall (!) and cracked the plaster through people letting it slam shut. Oh, and the pretend drawer front under the sink won't stay put. :rotfl: So I will follow your progress with interest.

Don't forget to celebrate each victory not just the final one!

It's fab that just two hours' work have already produced a 'much better'. :j:j:j I will pop back on the lookout for updates, especially the ones that say 'sat down and had a cuppa while gazing happily at my progress'. :)

As redo says, pace yourself parsniphead. Just getting rid of the layer of stuff that can be binned usually helps me.

As for the kitchen - I ripped mine out 5 years ago and haven't replaced it, but no kitchen was better than what was there before. I survive with a freestanding cooker and a selection of old tables, the bottom half of an old dresser and a couple of trolleys. The sink/DW/WM are in the utility room (one ikea sink unit to hold up the sink). And I have lots of crates to keep stuff in. But it's still better than the old kitchen, so consider it... you may well feel happier.
