So I was right to think it was wrong, thank you for your reply and I will be reporting it. The offer of £20 was to stop me raising the complaint within Lloyds so will do as you suggest.

If you got some dosh then a complaint has been logged - you accepting it merely means the complaint is now closed.

That's all very well, but customer services, financial services, public services and healthcare services are no longer allowed to use 084, 087 or 09 numbers.

Most organisations have changed their numbers. The best place to look for the replacement number is on the official website of whoever you intended to call. The issue is that some organisations have been a bit slow to update paperwork and other places their numbers are promoted. Very many third-party websites may never be updated.

Getting the new replacement 01, 02, 03 or 080 number from the official website has to trump typing in an obsolete 084 or 087 number into a third-party website and getting an unofficial geographic number in return.
Practially speaking, using sayno is a good place to check, regardless of what the given company has provided; the OP said that the number is what was printed on their most recent statement.

Whilst I agree that the company should have updated their documentation 6 months ago, it's still a valid approach.

I guess now, everybody might think about calling their CS and saying they'd tried the 0845 number first - £20 is a couple of free beers!

By now, we should all be done with looking for alternative numbers.

Most organisations have replacement 01, 02, 03 or 080 numbers detailed on their website and the 084 and 087 numbers have been, or are being, phased out.

The OP said they didn't always have access to the website/internet so was offering an alternative......the back of the card ;)

Once the stock of old card blanks have been used up, all new cards should be coming through with the new numbers on. Given the amount of advance notice that was given before the regulations came into force I would hope that point has already been reached. Some caution is in order, there remain tens of millions of cards with several years to go before their next renewal date. From a call cost (per-minute rate paid for the call) perspective, the need for a separate 'calling from abroad?' number no longer exists. However, if the idea of the separate number is to have a shorter queue so that people do not run up a huge bill while waiting then these will continue to be offered.

I see that my bank still shows their old 0845 number on a plastic strip that runs across the doors and windows of the local branch. That should have been changed last year!

I had to call lloyds CC over a query on my statement. The phone number for customer services on the statement begins 0845, on phoning it you get a message stating that it's now 0345 number so redial. When I got through I asked why they do not change the number on their statement as I now will have been charged for two calls. The girl I spoke to hedged around and admitted that it's been like that for a while and when I insisted that I wanted to lodge a complaint about it offered me a refund of £4.00 for my calls and a goodwill payment of £20 if I dropped the complaint but did give me a ref number if I wanted to take it up at a later date. All very odd which leads me to think very wrong that they are still giving out 0845 number. When that has happened on other numbers that have changed there is usually a message saying you haven't been charged for the call but definitely wasn't the case here as the girl rang it and confirmed I was right.

As statements are not pre generated months in advance I cannot possibly see the reason for not changing it on the statement. She did say it's different online but I get fed up with it being assumed everyone does their banking online.

I had an issue with Lloyds CC and the advisor refunded the call charges and a goodwill payment of £25.00. I also made a complaint online and
they also gave me a goodwill payment of £35 and they were about to refund the call charges but obviously I declined.

I wasn't debating what the bank should/could have done or when they should have done it by. I was merely responding to the OP and their specific issue of not always having access to the internet.

I know some people will think it's a fuss about nothing but it annoys me to think they are getting away with it.
The FCA has tightened up the rules for complaint handling and for what has to be reported to the FCA. It is deeply concerning that you have been offered money to not make a complaint. This appears to be an attempt to circumvent the FCAs stricter reporting regime and may be the thin end of a far bigger issue of hiding various other malpractice from the regulator.

Re the point about the card, I used the number on the statement as that was what I had in my hand at the time. My point was as that is generated every month and according to them their website has been updated how come their statements haven't been too.

There should be a few numbers on the back of your card too.
Some being 0800 or +44 17 etc for overseas which, when replacing the +44 with a 0 gives you a UK number that begins 01 ;)
Or just dial the number as given* - your mobile will work out you're in the UK and deal with it correctly (not so sure about a landline).

    * If it's written as +44 (0) - which is the recommended standard format - don't dial the 0.

In my experience that's not the case. What's usually been said is something along the lines of "I'd like to make a goodwill payment of £xx. Are you happy for me to close the complaint". In other words the complaint is still registered (and reported as required), but no further resource is spent on it.
