I thought the question was obvious why can they not just change the number on the statement. When you phone the 0845number it tells you to then dial 0345 number thereby generating the cost of two calls. If what they are doing is right why then offer me compensation?
There was also no service charge message on 0845 number which is against OFCOM rules if I understand it correctly. The woman I spoke to rang the number herself and agreed it wasn't included in the message.0 -

There is exact compliance with a regulation, which they appear to have done, and there is compliance with the spirit of a regulation, which they haven't done.
The latter could be for one of numerous operational reasons that none of us would know, understand or even care about.
By putting the message out there when you ring the 08 number they are acknowledging that there are more cost effective ways to contact them.
By compensating you the way they have they are holding their hands up and saying "we're not deliberately taking advantage of you and accept that this is not ideal at the moment".
Choose to make more of it if you like. But I'd grab the cash and leave them to get on with sorting it out in their own time.0 -
Maybe I care more about it being wrong than just grabbing the money. I am not a habitual complainer and often keep quiet rather than speak up but hate the fact that other people, probably older people will end up still paying for double calls.0

@mazzy Call me a cynic but it's probably part of one giant con by Lloyds. Hardly anyone complains and if most people call back twice (first 0845, then 0345), even after compensating a few people £4 + £20 they'll be quids up. Probably just banks doing what they do best. Trying to swindle unsuspecting consumers out of their hard earned cash.
Congrats on getting a refund + compensation on the calls!
Oh and a useful tip:
For any premium rate number I always google it to see if a free/local number exists. If you're lucky you can find a generic 0800 number for the company and ask them to put you through to the correct department. That's what I do sometimes when I can't be bothered to get the house phone! (I'm on payg mobile)

Surely not, its not like they have a history of doing that do they:rotfl:0

They are clearly not going to decommission the 0845 number for a period of time as it will be printed on various documents.
A recorded voice is probably the best option that they have but clearly shouldn't be actively printing the number anywhere. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
