I suppose it is like fashion, would you wear a shell suit or hotpants today regardless of how well they had worn?
Surely that's a question of choice though? The other poster specifically said "really need to be changed" - I'd hope we all appreciate the difference between wants and needs.0 -

I think need is often subjective though. I would think it needed to be changed, and as I would have the money to do that in a new property, that is what I would do. However, if the money wasn't there I would have to put up with it, but it would remain something I thought needed doing rather than something I wanted to do and it may well take precedence over other things which I could more easily live with.0 -

I would certainly want it to be changed but I'd know that this was my personal preference and nowhere near a need.0 -
I suppose you could compare it to a wife buying her husband a nice garden shed.
My OH would love me forever and be a slave for a month.. It is a very nice shed though.. Is it on your 'want' list?LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Then we would discuss it and draw up a list of priorities that we were both happy with.0 -

It seems that to some allowing a partners preference to come higher up the list is a gift they give them.
As for gender and DIY in my job I often need to get customers to unscrew their phone socket ......women in general especially younger women tend to know where the screwdrivers are and get on with it .....whilst men need to ask where it is and moan and groan about doing it.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
