Bob....Hope you are ok and hugs to you :)

Well done on cutting down Thriftylass I'm sure you can continue to kick it!

    Another SFD for me today.
I ventured to my sister's house to water the garden. You've guessed it! It waited until I had finished, then decided to pour down....and still is!
I 'wombled' some salad goodies from my sister's fridge, so that is my tea taken care of for this evening. My friend is coming for tea as well. I've made cheese filled baked potatoes to go will it, so I'm sure it will be yummy...and free! I only had to use cheese out of my fridge!

I'm still not feeling 100% but on the mend :)

A second NSD for me! I really need to up my game.

I have made some small personal victories. I stopped buying a latte in the morning and I am putting the £2 straight into my savings account. I am getting used to instant coffee - I got the @ldi Alcafe "Barista Style" - basically, the one that's a copy of Azera. I have also started taking lunch to work, which I don't mind either. I know that I am going to get something that I like, unlike the canteen which can be very hit or miss. This challenge has really focussed me on my spending priorities, so thank you very much!!!!

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
My days at work will drop back from 4 to 2 in July. I am soooo looking forward to it! Yes, there is the obvious drop in income, but the improved quality of life... without equal!

However, I have been offered approx 1/2 a day extra from Sept. Teaching reception, y1 and y2. I am a secondary teacher and the ankle biters scare me as much as the teenagers scare the primary teachers! I need to weigh it up and let them know fairly soon. I welcome any and all comments/ opinions on the matter. My subjects are French and Spanish and I would be 'teaching' them French.

Well. 2.5 days would be a lot less extra than you work now still. Why dont you work out how much it would give you for project pay off the mortgage? Might motivate you :)

Also Im sure the Y1/Y2 children would really benefit from a teacher who could stretch them a bit because you are used to older children.

Well done on the changes drcee

apple no offence to primary school teachers (my sister is one) but I couldn't think of anything worse than teaching primary school aged children. Give me 30 rowdy year 11s on a wet Friday afternoon period 5 any day (btw this is probably a premonition of this coming Friday afternoon, straight after they've had a morning of exams, wish me luck!)

Broke my SFD today for my first Indian takeaway solo in a year. I really fancied one so decided to have the night off working and have one. It's also a year since I became single, so a kind of celebratory meal I guess ;)

    Night all

Ps if someone could send the rain here, just for a few hours, my garden and my headache would appreciate it.

I intend replacing the fridge (can't think of anywhere that mends them) but I don't want to mess around whilst the builders are here. It's a basic own brand model from one of the chains and I think they take the old one away for free. It has done 4 years. There are some places that do second hand but they are usually only guaranteed for 6 months and then the old one would have to stay in the back yard until next year's bulky waste collection (May 10th).

I have spent money today mainly as a result of compensating for the fridge. I have decided to have bananas for breakfasts as yoghurts and cheese spread are not going to keep. I had taken sliced turkey and a wrap out of the freezer last night but couldn't think what to have with it. Then remembered the beetroot had survived because it was vacuum packed. The remaining fridge contents (plain and fruit yoghurts, a little marg, few jars) in a box behind the water butt - a fern is growing there so think it is cool and shady.

Thrifty on potatoes. Yes, harvest the big ones and if they are too small ie haven't done anything, just chuck them back in for next year.

apple I thought you needed a different qualification to teach different age groups. When I was studying for my degree, my tutor was first of all asked to help out with teacher training and the asked to head the department the following year and I understood you had to make a decision on the age group fairly early on. When I wanted to do it (also considering volunteering or doing classroom assistant route) the main attraction for working with young children was to regain the feeling of 'being in tune with the seasons'. The whole school year (although I am sure the children don't see it that way) is one long celebration (in the widest sense) - talking about the summer holidays, autumn leaves, bonfires (and looking out for hedgehogs), Halloween, preparing for Christmas etc. It will be just basic stuff, numbers, colours, 'my name is' and 'baa baa mouton noir, avez vous de laine' (or does she have to be mouton gris these days).

I have had a resting day. I finally did the bannister rail and the balusters between 10 pm and midnight, washed all the paint off and then at 1 am I went back and painted the light fitting and pull cord fitting in the bathroom as I thought they would look grimy when the new white and sparkly panels surround them.

So this morning, not overdone it, but definitely rest and a little gentle pottering. Had a brainwave - suggested that as the new toilet was not yet screwed down, if I went to buy a piece of vinyl the same size as the ply board (old floorboards getting a bit ropey in places) we could put it down before the fittings and save having to cut round everything. So faithful dolly truck and I went off to do that.

Also cleaned out the fridge and made a start on the filing. Several snags were encountered today so bathroom is still not complete. Old fitting are out, I can use the new toilet (gently because the 'cement' join was not quite dry) but had to use the downstairs sink. Roof man still not phoned and think the builders are considering rounding up the laminate man and bringing him back lashed to the bumper again.

DS3 phoned as he is still unable to access his on-line tax account and has to re-register. He needed the dates we moved to the other house and the when we moved back here and also his passport number which 'he was sure he had put away safely in one of the wardrobe top boxes'. Cue running upstairs, pulling wardrobes away from the wall, propping them boxes open and peering/ running hands along trying to find passport. Then found it in his underwear drawer.

This evening I have been to buy bananas, had a look at the continental market we are having (vans and tents setting up all along the main shopping street although not sure how many Peruvian ponchos they will sell in this weather). I have just painted a bit that got missed in the bathroom - where the pipe actually touched the wall - and used what was left in the tray on a bit more of a door frame and three short lengths of skirting.

Today I am grateful for ys bargains, creative solutions and getting to grips with the filing. Also for the house not being as bad as it might appear on the surface - was able to tell Mrs builder where (room/ where in the room) to find a lump hammer and the white spirit and found the passport.
My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.

    Hi everyone!

A quick and late post from me.

Spend today as I needed some business items to finish off my orders. Had an email confirming I have some extra work at the referendum count. It will probably take a while to get paid again but at least I know it will be coming.

    Night all!

    Hello and good morning.

No SFD here today as I will pop to the shops after DS had his last school visit this afternoon. That shop will hopefully replace our usual Friday and Sat one.

I don't think I could teach primary either but then I have never tried. We do an outreach program where we go to secondaries and teach science a few classes a term and I love that.

Drcee well done on the habit changes i.e. resisting the lattes and taking lunch to work. Don't worry about making the target SFD (I won't make it either as I set the number too high thinking it's May, a long month). Keep trying and get as high as possible. It's a mind set change that takes time.

Had two rollies again last night but was in a much better mood to my kid's and DH benefit. Also got a few extra bits done and ticked them of my anti-overwhelmedness list. Got a fair bit of gardening done. Cooked enough dinner to take some for lunch and keep some for the lasagne I'll make for Friday. Today I'll finish of a present I'm making for a friend's daughter (5 funny crochet monsters and a crochet cave). They just need faces.

No gym tonight as I'm on a half day to take DS to the school and after school club visit.

    Have a good day.
