The EU: IN or OUT?

I think it was entirely appropiate to suspend campaigning and clear the airwaves of referendum noise following such a tragic event.
Am I the only one to find MJ112's post to be in astonishingly bad taste ?
Whilst I do not share any of the conspiracy theories, what is "astonishing bad taste" in expressing the opinion that some seem to have cynically hijacked this tragic event for their own best interests - and object to it. You would not wish that to happen would you?
Out of interest what evidence do you have or have heard or seen that leads you to believe that she would have wished this incredibly important debate to have been suspended on the basis it is in her memory?
Do you find it inconceivable that she might instead have wanted the debate to continue ie the compolete opposite so that the British people heard as much of the argument as possible? I find the assertion that she would have wanted this outcome to be "in bad taste".
You can disagree with the conclusion I share with MJ12 but don't falsely disparage others please.

It does seem awfully convenient.
At the very least, it looks like the remain elements are taking advantage of this tragedy while it is hot on the news and thin on facts, seasoning it to taste. When we find out whether or not it is politically motivated, it will be too late. So why not assume it is, and spinning it as such all over the news, right now?
If I was being cynical, I would go further to ask whether the murder itself was somehow staged.
Next step:
Will the referendum be postponed? Or will it be suspended? Surely not.... right?
PS. I am catching up on The Blacklist. Great show, makes me feel very paranoid.
I'm not picking on you in particular, but there are several posts including yours which I feel are rather distasteful and insensitive. Could we please optionally express our horrow and sympathy at this needless death, perpetrated by someone with a sick mind, and discuss the EU poll as a separate issue. Conflating the two is not a good idea. Thanks.0 -

I absolutely agree with you, we should not be conflating the two issues.
Since we are on the Savings and Investment board, let's talk about the market. GBP/USD was in sharp decline amidst Brexit fear, overlooking positive UK economic data and mixed data from the US. It has at one time reached $1.4010/£. However, at around 5pm (16th June), with no notable economic data coming out, GBP shot up 200 pips to $1.4200/£.
GBP/USD does not usually move that much that time of the day unless something big happened.
GBP/USD has since continued to climb, almost reaching the 1.43 level. The EU referendum vote is still to happen, poll data are as they are, so what has changed? What is causing this surge?2nd Aug, 15: £276k. 18th Sep, 15: £269k. 30th Oct, 15: £265k.0 -

I am with you to a degree, but feel you have over-egged it.
The hijacking of this thread has nothing whatsoever to do with Jo Cox's death other than the politicians have suspended war for 24 hours as I understand it because they wish to show respect to a working colleague. They have not suggested that the public should also stop discussing the issue have they.
People are free to express their views about Jo Cox's terrible murder, and they are also entitled to discuss the EU referendum and those issues. Such things should be tolerated anywhere and everywhere.
If however some people do not wish to discuss the EU referendum and those issues for whatever reason then that is a personal decision and they should simply not post, but they should not impose their view on others. I believe that Jo Cox being a passionate "remainer" would prefer it if people continued to try and convince voters of her views. But you can disagree with that if you wish.

The thread was not hijacked.
It is just fair to suggest that the debate should stop for a while, to pay respect to an MP who was so horrifically murdered. The official campaigns had the good grace and dignity to do so, and there should really not be any debate over whether the rest of us should also show the same.0 -

It is not a matter of good grace. The public are not a part of the official campaign and nor are you their spokesperson on these fora.
The reason why the political debate stopped was because politicons perfectly understand that it reflects badly on them if it were to continue in the way they were at this moment AND to show respect to a colleague. This thread has nothing to do with Jo's tragic death. Opportunistic shroud waving to impose views on others might be seen as equally disgraceful and simply a cheap and easy shot. You would not like that accusation to be made falsely about your clearly genuine feelings, so stop taking a pop at others for holding theirs.
If you do not want to disacuss for a while, then simply stop posting on the thread and let others post or not as they wish without attacking them for exercising their right. Their opinion and decision is of equal value to yours and you should show the same respect to them as you would like from them.
I suggest we let this drop now as we have both clearly expressed a view.

I thought the Leave camp postponed as the lunatic who committed the heinous act was spouting out type rubbish?
They dont want to be associated with this sick person? Nor should they be, as it was a mentally ill person.0 -

I have also heard that the spouting out of rubbish bit has not been substantiated.2nd Aug, 15: £276k. 18th Sep, 15: £269k. 30th Oct, 15: £265k.0 -
