I didn't vote for David Cameron or my local MP. Did you?0 -
If you haven't heard yet, both sides have suspended campaigning for the time being in the light of the callous murder of Jo Cox MP.
Please down your intellectual weapons in respect for Jo.
Statement from Brendan Cox, Jo's husband and father of her two young children:
Jo Cox's death is tragic. I don't wish to sound cynical, but ...
Perhaps I am alone in thinking that the suspension of the EU campaigning seems totally disconnected with Jo's death and seems to me to be a convenient and cynical tragedy on which to project a reason to suspend what has become an out of control political situation that would have otherwise got worst and difficult to repair.
I think that all sides were looking for a way to get the debate back on track and resemble some bit of dignity, but neither side could control themselves in provoking their opposition.
This to me seems like a convenient excuse on which to hang a ceasefire.

For goodness sake.
Have some compassion for a family who had ripped their heart out, in the most brutal way imaginable.
We don't have to go back immediately to argue about in or out. Why are you trying to skip over the murder of Jo Cox?0 -
The response on here to the assassination of Jo Cox is very telling. And deeply sad.0

I have no less compassion about this tragic incident than you. Quite the reverse. Hence my objection the the way I feel it has been hijacked.
Expressing that opinion is the opposite to your accusation.

It does seem awfully convenient.
At the very least, it looks like the remain elements are taking advantage of this tragedy while it is hot on the news and thin on facts, seasoning it to taste. When we find out whether or not it is politically motivated, it will be too late. So why not assume it is, and spinning it as such all over the news, right now?
If I was being cynical, I would go further to ask whether the murder itself was somehow staged.
Next step:
Will the referendum be postponed? Or will it be suspended? Surely not.... right?
PS. I am catching up on The Blacklist. Great show, makes me feel very paranoid.2nd Aug, 15: £276k. 18th Sep, 15: £269k. 30th Oct, 15: £265k.0 -

Thanks for "getting" my point, I appreciate it.
What nudged my observation was not just the "convenience" I outlined in my post, but also what MP's could have done more appropriately was immediately suspend Parliament for the rest of yesterday, and perhaps make a donation of yesterday's pay to one of Jo's charities in her memory of her, her passions and good work and in her name. Perhaps Lords could have suspended the rest pf the sitting as well, and donated a day's attendance allowance. That would have shown a much more appropriate and genuine reaction. Instead both Houses continued with their business as though Jo's murder hadn't occured and the Lords took their day's pay as did all MPs. They chose instead to do something they wanted and needed to do anyway.
I do not know Jo, but I find myself wondering whether she would approve of this debate being halted about this issue under the guise of it being to "respect her memory". I obviously do not know, but have a nagging doubt and think it just as likely or more likely that she would wish the debate to vigorously proceed so that the British people make the right decision having heard as much argument either way as possible.
That was my point and thanks again for "getting" it.

I think it was entirely appropiate to suspend campaigning and clear the airwaves of referendum noise following such a tragic event.
Am I the only one to find MJ112's post to be in astonishingly bad taste ?0 -
