The EU: IN or OUT?

And most said leaving the ERM would be a disaster. It was the opposite. The IMF slammed Osborne's budgets at the start, but they were proven wrong. And so on. Now this does not prove the point I made earlier, but it does suggest that economics is known as the dismal science for good reason. The only way to decide is to meet again in 5 years time. But it is my suspicion that devaluation will be good.
Thatcher followed Heseltine's advice not to attempt to wield a handbag from an empty chair - something May or Leadsome will now be forced to do.
As you say, time will tell. I think that Osborne will be proven right but until we know, I think we will have to agree to differ.
I think, though, that May is by far and away more likely to achieve a better outcome than Leadsome - although that is something we will never know with certainty in the absence of access to a parellel universe.0 -

That didn't work out well either.
The same can be said for most votes. Many deeply regretted voting for Blair. And of course people's views on a vote change with time. So, do we in this case ignore the democratic process, and hold the referendum again? And do we hold it every 6 months, or every year, until we get the 'right' answer? In which case we are setting a precedent, which should be applied to all votes.
But this would only be for the EU vote. And it would cause uproar, maybe even violence and rioting on the streets, and massive hatred of the EU and government.
I find this campaign remainers deeply troubling, they seem to have a love of democracy unless it gives the 'wrong' answer, in which case they come out with all sorts of nonsense to justity a demand to annull the result. A bit like the Ireland vote to approve an EU treaty. They held it twice, cos the voters gave the wrong answer the first time around.0 -

I am sure you are right about May, experience counts for a lot, even if she was not a leaver. I do hope she does not go for the in the EU but not in the EU option whereby we have freedom of movement of Labour, but no voting rights.
I don't understand the Thatcher remark.
Yes, in 5 years we will know.0 -

I personally think Teresa May is a brexit. She was invisible during the campaign probably because she wanted to stay loyal to Cameron as PM,but couldn't support his IN campaign."Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0

Potential reduction in household debt then, nice
Why do you think we are living in a time of extreme low interest rates (where there is now talk of taking the rates lower!!) and where, in addition, many tens of billions of £££ have been pumped in to the economy?Personal Responsibility - Sad but True

I agree with you, and I do remember plenty of discussion where it was thought that Teresa May would support the Leave campaign.
Meanwhile serious legal proceedings have commenced to get a ruling as to whether the PM can issue S50 without a parliamentary vote. The case will very likely end up in the Supreme Court and raise all kinds of interesting constitutional questions. More drama to follow, no doubt.0 -
