thinking about buying a mk5 golf from these guys
want 2.0 tdi 5 door golf in grey
with arm rest
looking for anywhere between a 2004 reg and 2007 reg must have less than 50 k on clock
is it worth my signing up if so what the best option to pay.
i am in no rush to buy but fancy saving a few quid by buying from a auction
also any tips advice would be great, not used auctions beforeTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.:D0 -
Not wishing to stop anyone saving a few £$£, but I think the possibility that blatantly displaying the Auctionview results, as in some of the posts, might upset BCA & cause a problem for Martin & the site.
May I suggest that if anyone who has access to the system, Manheim too, maintain a PM stance, when helping fellow Moneysavers - just in case!
& don't forget, auction account customers, you'll probably find that you're not supposed to do it anyway!!
Private purchasers, who have bought & paid for searches, might be more or less OK, though!
& regarding the request for BMW X5's for sale, if you want PETROL, you'll have much more chance of a bargain, as, currently, there is a buying in diesel only policy, in BMW main dealers!
But do check the extras & spec carefully, to make sure you get what you think you want!!

Happychappy, I believe that the Golf GT TDI 130 achip was going on about was the Mk IV, not the mark V (which would explain why you couldnt find any)0

If you look above there are lots of 2.0 GT tdi search results which give you an idea of cost (of GT model), the price you look at (in the search results) is the "cln" price + 5%. or the trade price, or the hi, avg, lo prices (which relate to hi avg lo mileages, and which themselves are averages of recent sale prices within those mileage ranges) which are followed by a mileage figure eg 53K and another figure like this 15+ (which is a sample size figure), don't confuse this 'avg' with the other 'avg' which comes before the 'Cln' figure
Then you have a buyers fee - which varies depending on bid price - phone them up for an idea how much it will be. it is in the £300 - £500 sort of region.
£25 registration fee
and unless you pay by debit card, a 1% - 2% cash/credit handling fee aswell.
Is it worth it? You refer to the auctionview subscrition. It is really up to you whether you think it worth subscribing to their service, to buy just 1 car. It might be more worth your while to regularly phone them up and ask them if they have your wanted make/model coming for sale at your local branch. The auctionview service is useful for those who are prepared to travel to BCA branches across the country to get their desired car. I wouldn't bother with the low cost subscription, because you may not find your car quickly enough, you want atleast the 2 month subscription, for £15 it isn't that expensive is it?
Non account holders are not allowed to access the pricing information on auctionview. But don't be disheartened about this, because you can easily obtain the information from wisebuyers.
For example using the results for Golfs above. Take the 2nd from the bottom as an example:
(and note this is how to read the unformatted information given above in the search results)

But if you are sharp you will see that the actual sales price recently have been below the expected price so you could get a bargain. And you don't need to be told this, as long as you are prepared to pay the trade price, if you get it for less you will only go home happy as an unexpected surprise.
You can also see that the auction price is very similar price to what you *should* get it for in the private sale market. But unfortunaltely private sellers always think they will get more for their car than what it's book value actually is. You will see this is the case when looking on autotrader. So theoretically it is better to buy privately than it is to buy at auction, because you have no excessive fees ontop and you can take your time examining and testing the car. The problem will be in explaining to the owner his car is not worth as much as he thinks it is.0 -
