Psychic readings

Why do we have forensics or coroner's? Why don't we just use a psychic to find out every unexplained death?
I know why...... because they make it up.Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.0 -

She told me a fact about the circumstances surrounding my mothers death 15 years ago that only myself, my husband and her dad (my brother) knew. We did not tell anyone else and yet all these years later my niece knew after being told by a pyschic.
It was to do with what had ultimately caused her death, cancer or a fall whilst in hospital, the investigation resulted in us having to cancel the funeral arrangements and delay the funeral until the results were known.
I am a sceptic but I cannot explain this, and I found myself feeling very tearful about it.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?
She told me that the pyschic had told her the timeline of events and the outcome. There is no way anyone else knew, and my brother has memory issues and he now has no memory of the events so it definitely didn't come from him.
We all have our own opinions on this, I respect others opinions but know what I believe.......0 -
The most significant reason I have to doubt is actually human nature.
Psychics take money for their readings (in the main) and therefore have no issues capitalising on their gifts.
And yet...
Not one verifiable (and by verifiable I mean right at least 50% of the time) individual has claimed any of the several prizes out there for being able to demonstrate psychic ability.
If people out there could actually do something paranormal - wouldn't at least one of them want to be famous and get rich 'proving' it?
The Randi prize, for example, was open from 1964 to 2015.
It was open to any and all types of paranormal ability, and the claimants just had to demonstrate success repeatably.
An example of test setup/criteria:In 1979 Randi tested four people in Italy for dowsing ability (Mr. Fontana, Dr. Borga, Mr. Stanziola, and Mr. Senatore). The prize at the time was $10,000.
The conditions were that a 10 meter by 10 meter test area would be used. There would be water supply and a reservoir just outside the test area. There would be three plastic pipes running underground from the source to the reservoir along different concealed paths. Each pipe would pass through the test area by entering at some point on an edge and exiting at some point on an edge. A pipe would not cross itself but it might cross others. The pipes were 3 centimeters in diameter and were buried 50 centimeters below ground. Valves would select which of the pipes water was running through, and only one would be selected at a time. At least 5 liters per second of water would flow through the selected pipe.
The dowser must first check the area to see if there is any natural water or anything else that would interfere with the test, and that would be marked. Additionally, the dowser must demonstrate that the dowsing reaction works on an exposed pipe with the water running. Then one of the three pipes would be selected randomly for each trial.
The dowser would place ten to one hundred pegs in the ground along the path he or she traces as the path of the active pipe. Two-thirds of the pegs placed by the dowser must be within 10 centimeters of the center of the pipe being traced for the trial to be a success. Three trials would be done for the test of each dowser and the dowser must pass two of the three trials to pass the test. A lawyer was present, in possession of Randi's $10,000 check. If a claimant were successful, the lawyer would give him or her the check. If none were successful, the check would be returned to Randi.
All of the dowsers agreed with the conditions of the test and stated that they felt able to perform the test that day and that the water flow was sufficient. Before the test they were asked how sure they were that they would succeed. All said either "99 percent" or "100 percent" certain. They were asked what they would conclude if the water flow was 90 degrees from what they thought it was and all said that it was impossible. After the test they were asked how confident they were that they had passed the test. Three answered "100 percent" and one answered that he had not completed the test.
When all of the tests were over and the location of the pipes was revealed, none of the dowsers had passed the test. Dr. Borga had placed his markers carefully, but the nearest was a full 8 feet from the water pipe. Borga said, "We are lost", but within two minutes he started blaming his failure on many things such as sunspots and geomagnetic variables.
Two of the dowsers thought they had found natural water before the test started, but disagreed with each other about where it was, as well as with the ones who found no natural water.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Million_Dollar_Paranormal_ChallengeThat sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

If you believe this information came from the other side then surely it follows that it's come direct from your mum? If that's the case then it was her business to disclose so you've got no right to be angry so what's the problem?0
-
If it gives you contentment that your mother is okay on the other side then see it as a good sign.
If you see it as claptrap then take it with a pinch of salt.
There really is no right or wrong to this it is down to your own beliefs.
Some people believe in religion some don't, it makes neither right nor wrong.

Of course you are upset - anyone would be.
Indeed, psychics are expert at the kind of patter that 74jax describes - but jax has precised it.
Had you been able to hear the conversation it would have been much more drawn out, checking everyone's reactions after each phrase or significant word.
They trade on probabilities and your neice will have then picked up on things that had meaning, and has put them together. The psychic wouldn't have laid out a precise time-line, but would have given that impression to a gullible young woman.
I had a member of the family, who because of great sadness (and an upbringing just after WW1 when psychics were rife) believed in them and went to them. I did not feel I could challenge something that meant so much to her, so I learned to distance myself. I nodded respectfully, but inside I did not allow myself to get distressed. I do hope that you can do the same.
Can I add that I would not challenge your niece? She will have "set" what she believes to have been said into her version of events. I would leave it that she believes what she was told about her grandmother, but in your own mind, let it go.0 -
I had a 1 to 1 meeting with a Psychic years ago. Just me and her in a room in her house.
I don't really believe they can see whats happened in the past but what she said really spooked me out at the time. The only time i'd spoken to her previously was to book the appointment and all she knew was my first name.
She knew exactly what my situation was at that time, i'd recently separated but my ex had decided to come back home (briefly, as it turned out !) She also knew that my brother in law had committed suicide 2 years before, she knew how he'd killed himself. She described my Aunt who had just passed away, not easy really as she was quite a unique character, she had a particular way of greeting people which this woman couldn't possibly have known.
I don't know how she did it but it certainly made me a bit more open minded about this type of thing. As long as you don't dwell on what they've said and take it with a pinch of salt, i can't see the harm in it.0 -

I expect that, if you'd filmed and watched it back, it might be more obvious how she actually got all that information from you.
They are also helped by the fact that anybody who actually pays money, takes time and goes to a psychic in the first place is much more likely to respond to their techniques and to want to believe them.
There's a reason why 'psychics' aren't turning up at police stations offering their services to help solve murders. A willing and reasonably receptive audience is part of the trick.0 -
If there was anything in it there would be very few unsolved murders (if any at all)
I would be more inclined to believe in "Father Christmas"I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
After the sudden loss of my Dad, a family friend made an appointment with a medium to come to our house. She did not want payment, so no financial gain was to be had. I was very sceptical indeed but she said several things that were just... strange. Things the family friend had no idea about, things that would not be possible to find out through social media etc... and I for one was very careful not to react obviously but rather just let her talk. I must admit, I found it rather thought provoking.
I can only assume there were two explanations to my story - she had a psychic gift, or she was a kind old dear who really thought she was helping and was merely guessing. I think it's entirely up to you how you view your story. Without being there, you cannot take your niece's word for how it happened - she may have skewed memories of what was said. Go with your gut instinct and don't let it unnerve you - it should either bring you comfort if you believe it, or if you're sceptical feel reassured that there is almost definitely a non mystical explanation.0
