If psychics were genuine then we would all know what awaited us after death - if anything. We would know this as fact and all religions would have the same beliefs. Sadly, no one has ever been in touch 'from the other side' and the vulnerable are preyed on by those not so weak.

Thankfully, there have been 'messages' from the 'other side' that's the point of mediums giving out information that only the 'deceased' would know. There may be comments made on what the recipient has been doing - to show that the 'deceased' was there to.
Sadly, many people do not accept the concept of 'life after death' - but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen, whilst those that do feel stronger for it - and less fearful of physical death.

It would be interesting to see the 'afterwards' of a religious leader who went through a Near Death Experience - how different would their teaching be!?

On the contrary, there has never been any credible instance of contact with the dead. The clue is in the word 'dead'. The point of mediums is to make money, they are all frauds. Watch the Derren Brown link on YouTube and you will see how it is all done. It is often worse than just a scam, it's a very cruel trick played on the bereaved and vulnerable.

I think it is far more sad that some people do accept the concept of life after death as there has never been a scrap of evidence for it. Charlatans have been preying on the gullible for centuries. It is really down to being unable to accept the finality of death. Once you do that you can actually live your life to the full without worrying about a mythical next one. That is far more liberating as a concept.

Not just my view - it's the truth. They are all charlatans and they practise a tried and tested formula for deceiving vulnerable people. Of course they don't contact dead people. They are very good at what they do though and manage to scam many people. The references to 'Barnum' in the film say it all really.

You are, of course, entitled to believe whatever you want to, but people are also entitled to be warned that it is all a long-established and completely spurious scam.

AS I said that's your 'truth' not mine - you are welcome to stick to yours, I will stick to mine - and have my life enriched by guidance and love from the great beyond' at no cost.

I think gullibility is a great cost! A lack of critical thinking can be apparent in lots of other forms in life, people will eagerly believe you can live off sunlight alone, or people can levitate etc if there's life after death, all of that could be true too!
Lots of people say what's the harm, it's a bit of fun, it only affects my life, it doesn't matter, I'm happy to believe - there's plenty of very real consequences for lots of people and though it may not negatively affect you directly, you're supporting an industry full of conmen and frauds

I look forward to reading about the conversation with your Partner, when you declare how illogical the concept of 'love' is and as no one has proved it exists, you don't believe in it anymore, it's just a marketing tool to get money from the gullible!!

I am usually sceptical of these things however there are some things that can’t be explained that easily.

My sister has a friend (not that close) who seems sometimes to have a sense for these things. She isn't preying on vulnerable people as she doesn't work as a psychic or make any money from this 'gift'. Some things she picks up on could easily be explained by her just being someone who notices subtleties and changes in behaviour that others don’t.

But the once she called my sister to congratulate her on her pregnancy. No one apart from her partner and me knew she was pregnant. It wasn’t planned and they hadn’t been a couple long so it wasn’t like it was a natural progression in their relationship. Also she hadn’t seen, or even spoken to, my sister or her partner for months so couldn't have picked up on physical changes or signs. I don’t know how she knew it and I would love there to be a sensible explanation.

She has also told my sister things she knows about me, despite the fact she has never met me in her entire life. Again it could be lucky guesses but she has never told my sister anything about me that wasn't true and you'd assume if it was lucky guessing there'd be some bad guesses as well as good. So I'm starting to question my beliefs and think maybe there are people who do have a gift for these things, but they are so diluted by the 1000s who are just out to make money from vulnerable people, that they get dismissed as fakes.

So what was the niece going to the psychic for? If she wanted to know specifics about a relative's death, couldn't she have just tactfully asked the OP? Why would the deceased wish to cause distress by passing on grisly details from "the other side"?

    Fact: everyone dies.
Fact: nobody knows and will never know what happens (if anything) when we die.
Fact: the bereaved and vulnerable have been exploited by this uncertainty for the duration of human history.

Love's a chain of chemical reactions in the brain.
