I never use greaseproof paper. Just grease the tin then put 1/2 teaspoon of flour in and pat it round until all the greased areas are covered. Turn it upside down over the sink and tap the bottom so all loose flour is removed, then put cake mix in as normal - never had one stick yet!

    :A Thank you!

Glad they all came out ok. Now at least you can experiment with fillings etc and know your sponge is still intact for the actual birthday.
  • I made the mistake of asking my nearly 5 yo dd what sort of cake she would like for her birthday. A Stephanie from Lazy Town chocolate one came the reply. Ok I thought I can find one of those......days later I find they don't exist and I'll have to make one!!! I need the OS forum for this.........

So, I found this recipe for the Chocolate cake (did I mention I've never made a birthday cake before!)

There's also a Milk Chocolate Cake straight from the Be-ro book recipe in our collection. Click on the blue (The Index) in my signature below, go to The Old Style Recipe Collection and then Cakes etc.
    That's pretty bullet proof. :)
    :beer:Squeaky - you're right it is a brilliant recipe!

I then had a look around OS for some icing tips, bought a block of ready made icing, coloured some pink, covered the cake, rolled out a circle of white icing and using sugar art pens drew Stephanie.

This is how it turned out - it's just waiting for a ribbon on this picture but the choccie cake was perfect.
Thanks for all the help and advice I found on here.:D

    Edit: I can't find it. :( I'll go look... it's Here.

I agree, I have made this recipe many times in the past. Rarely make cakes now as children now grown up and left home and hubby and I have to watch our weight. Still enjoy baking rather than cooking tho!
  • right all you need is one large block of cooking chocholate ( i use 3 small shops own brand ating chocsome times cheaper) 1 can med can of condensed milk and 2oz of butter nuts cherry raisins and biscuits

all you do is melt the choc in a bowl over hot water
take of heat add can of condensed milk and butter stir well
add any thing else you want to put in (cherrys biscuites broken up small etc)
put in a loaf tin and put in the fridge until set

i would also recomend putting foil in the tin to make it easy to get choc out it is the best choc cake ever all my mates ask me for it on there b days if you make let me know how you get on will only take 10 mins to make good luck:D

I'm looking for a super duper chocolatey cake recipe. I always find that chocoalte cakes just aren't chocolatey enough. I've had a search but could anyone direct me to a cake that's really, really chocolatey or suggest a way to make a recipe more chocolatey? Can I just add melted chocolate and make it more chocolatey that way?
  • I made this cake for a colleague at work - it was absolutely delicious - HTH.
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)
