Here is the latest Microsoft's sleight of hand

MS is changing the way Win 7 and 8 users get their updates.
Instead of each update being listed - it seems we are now going to just get 1 mega rollup update containing all the non security updates each month.

See
https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/windowsitpro/2016/05/17/simplifying-updates-for-windows-7-and-8-1/
Its called 'simplifying' in MS-speak

......and why are they REALLY doing this you ask.
They are getting tired of fkwits like me only installing the bits we want and deleting out the win10 installer/nagware stuff, the irrelevant changes to Russian time zones, the bug fix for Lenovo computers running bitlocker and more importantly - yes the spyware/telemetry stuff which they added to Win7 via an update which we block every month.

Dumping it all into one mega update means we cannot anymore remove the sub-bits we don't like.

I thought at first it seemed you had perhaps shot yourself in your own foot...
This convenience update is completely optional; it doesn’t have to be installed and won’t even be offered via Windows Update – you can choose whether or not you want to use it.
    But then, further on
Also today we are announcing that non-security updates for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 (as well as Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2) will be available as a monthly rollup (fixes rolled up together into a single update). Each month, we will release a single update containing all of the non-security fixes for that month. We are making this change – shifting to rollup updates, to improve the reliability and quality of our updates.
    The damn swines!!

Sounds like they will still be doing weekly updates of security and non-security patches / updates.
AND having an additional update at the end of the month of all the non-security patches/updates. (You know like a monthly Service pack!)

...Which, if you think about it, makes reinstalling and updating a LOT easier if you have the monthly round-ups, instead of the huge list of individual ones that need to be installed in a certain order or by themselves which also requires a reboot for every individual patch!!

So you just need to install the security updates and then update the monthly "service packs" to get back up and running...

It is not fine if you don't want it and Microsoft are trying to force it on people.

    Oh by the way.

Last line of the Microsoft post...
...this change is only for manual downloads..
So it does not affect automatic update feature!

GWX will vanish in July - as will the chance to get on the Win10 bus for free, apparently.

There are really very few compelling reasons not to upgrade BTW

Apart from just one subtle but vital reason - SOME OF US DO NOT WANT IT!
