Surely this will make things much easier for anyone trying to clean-install Windows 7, eg. if they've decided they don't like Windows 10.

So, finally, Windows 7 Service Pack 2.... it's been a long time coming and mostly welcomed.....

    ..BUT....

will it contain the telemetry and W10 nagware updates? Come on MS, be honest for once....

Well, put it this way, it's just taken me a couple of minutes or so to download both 32- and 64-bit versions, waaaay faster than waiting for windows update to do it, and installation will be much quicker with only a single reboot needed at the end....

so, new method = install w7, install SP1 from disk, install SP2 from disk, done in, what? about 4 hrs or so... could be a winner, maybe...

I've yet to see ONE compelling reason to upgrade. :rotfl:

I bet you're one of those people who buys a dishwasher especially because you can control it remotely with an app just because you think "new" means "better"!!!

I really don't understand why you are wasting so much time begging people to use software that you have absolutely no involvement in. Truly bizarre.

i use the best tech to try and make my life easier. i have upgraded to win 10 on all my devices because it make life easier for me. i have not had any problems with any of the 6 devices i have upgraded.

all i am saying is that the upgrade is free, i paid £100 for win 7. imho everyone should try the upgrade even if it is just to activate win10 to insure against a future charge. be interesting to revisit this thread in a couple of years to see who eventually upgraded or who is on linux

Win 7 won't just suddenly stop working you know, after the extended support period has ended. ;)

(Yes, I have migrated to Win 10 on my home laptop).

the comments section has a reply from someone confirming the GWX updates ARE NOT included in this pseudo-SP, so that's good :)

I processed the first of the 'rollups' in Windows Update only yesterday and I can confirm that none of the nagware has reappeared on any of our PCs.

How does Windows 10 make your life easier?

The fact that you had to install it at all is an indication that it complicated your life in at least one regard.

I use GNU/Linux already as my main OS, with Windows 7 for a few Windows-only apps.

I can't see a single reason to use Win10 yet (well, except to secure a free upgrade licence should I ever want one).

There's lots of ugly bloated junk in the Win10 UI. And it's missing basic features like a "proper" hierarchical Start menu. And, behind the UI, it doesn't seem like there are any major changes to the OS.

I still don't understand the "football fan" mentality of many posters here (not you!). It's as if they see their choice of using Windows 10 as a tribal identity; they develop an ignorant sense of superiority over other OS users.

I can imagine them going down the pub in "Windows 10" fancy dress and trying to pick fights with other OS users because they're "wearing the wrong colours". Or shedding real tears when bugs are discovered in their team's software.

I'd be fascinated to know why people have become unthinkingly attached to Win10 in a way that didn't happen with previous Windows incarnations. Is it just the free upgrades that have left people feeling like they owe Microsoft a favour, and thus feel like they have a duty to become brand ambassadors and promote Win10 in return...?

I think some of the earlier operating systems were a natural upwards progression in the development stage and moving from Windows 95 through to XP was a no-brainer for most.

The later operating systems have been more problematic. A lot of people, including myself, were reluctant to move from XP to Win 7 and only did so because we were warned that once Microsoft abandoned support for XP, our computers, and all personal details, would be open to all and sundry hackers, to do with as they would malevolently choose.

People who advocate moving from Win 7 to Windows 10 are using a similar argument. Win 7 they say, will not be supported after a few years and hence Windows 10 is the natural progression

I need not state the obvious irony here, that people who say our privacy will be under attack from malevolent hackers are seemingly quite content to drift like sheep into the open arms of Microsoft who state quite baldly that :

"We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary.”

Sounds to me very much like a malevolent hackers corporate charter. But these people don’t come in through the back door. They walk brazenly through the front door and in to your parlour. And they are apparently welcomed with open arms by many.

The second irony here is that some people, as has been pointed out above, seem to have become emotionally attached to Windows 10. I suspect that because it is free, and because it is by no means universally acknowledged to be be a better o/s than Win 7 then people are becoming ultra defensive and struggling desperately to justify their move from Win 7 to Win 10. I never could get my head around "cognitive dissonance theory" but I think it might be applicable here.

We know that some people become emotionally attached to inanimate objects like their motor vehicles and even give them pet names.

I am running two computers, one with 7 and the other with 10. Think I will call them Bill and Ben.

before win10 i had xp and win7 on various devices. on the netbook running xp it was advised not to upgrade to win7 because of driver/performance issues. i have now upgraded all to win10 with no issues. i like the ui and as they are all configured the same i can find things easily on any of the devices. i am also tight and didn't want to spend £100's on a new os.

i haven't got time to worry about the privacy issues. on balance i think the benefits of having mobiles and all of this data/functuality/convenience at our fingers tips far out way the negatives.
