But if I get a quote now that is based on their next 12 months Tracker forecast, and the forecast is not too far out, then this is very significantly more attractive than anything else that I have found. I'd be interested to know if this is the same for other readers.

I agree. If you were in the North East the cost should be 14.83 p

I would also be interested to know what the explanation is.

It's not the Standing Charge 18.73  p that you are referring to? I don't think that the unit price has spiked at near that level since once on 3rd March.

How much were you expecting? Prices are quite high currently. If you look at Guy Lipmans website which was posted earlier you can see all the daily prices of the last few months:

You have to take the standing charges into account also in order to make comparisons. For me at the present variable tariff levels Tracker is amongst the leaders, possibly the leader when you eliminate tariffs with high exist fees / poor customer ratings etc. Octopus have been predicting price drops over the summer for quite some time in which case now would not be a good time to go fixed.  The present price would seem to  be in the higher than normal range historically so there is some potential downside . With gas it may be different.

  • I don't know if anyone on here will have advice, but I contacted Octopus in January to change to them (I'm on economy 7 and pre-pay metre as a renter). They said I just needed to reply with a 'Yes' to an email to change over, that was on Jan 25th... I've still not heard anything from them despite multiple emails to chase it up. Does this mean I'm not a customer of theirs as they didn't acknowledge it within 28 days (their small print terms) or within 14 days (the time they said I had if I changed my mind) ?
