I realize now that you can ignore the Eco 7 rates and just go by the "standard" rates instead in both cases. But my other concern is that these tariffs may have only a week or two before being terminated and it would be a case of getting clarification from Octopus by email - easier said than done.Telegraph Sam

Even if they are discontinued, you'll stay on it for the full 12 months.Telegraph_Sam said:I realize now that you can ignore the Eco 7 rates and just go by the "standard" rates instead in both cases. Best to just make the request to switch on Twitter, since time is of the essence. The tariff is fixed for 12 months once you are on it.Telegraph_Sam said:I realize now that you can ignore the Eco 7 rates and just go by the "standard" rates instead in both cases. With Eco 7 tariffs (I don't have Economy 7) you pay the higher electricity unit price during daylight hours and the lower Eco 7 price at night time?Telegraph Sam

Each region has its own economy hours and mechanism for switching between day and night rates (e.g. meter with an internal clock, RF signal). The cheap rate is generally 7 hours from around midnight and may change when we go from GMT to BST. You need a meter that supports E7 to go on the E7 tariff, if you have a single rate meter then you'd be put on the single rate tariff.Telegraph_Sam said:With Eco 7 tariffs (I don't have Economy 7) you pay the higher electricity unit price during daylight hours and the lower Eco 7 price at night time?

Does that mean that if I don't have an Econ 7 meter I can still use these tariffs but ignore the Eco 7 figures and just go by the standard charges (which are pitched mid way between the Eco 7 day and night costs)? But how will the system know that I don't have an Econ 7 meter and how will it know not to charge me the Econ 7 daytime rates??masonic said:Each region has its own economy hours and mechanism for switching between day and night rates (e.g. meter with an internal clock, RF signal). More complex than I had anticipated!Telegraph Sam

It's really not complicated at all. Octopus knows what type of meter you have and your bills are based on your meter readings, which are not two rate. It is almost certain that your current tariff has an E7 version too.Telegraph_Sam said:
