I joined Octopus Energy yesterday as a refugee from Tonik Energy.Tonik are still blaming technical problems for not billing me for the past two months. I have had enough of their excuses and wonder how they can still be in business after the way they have conducted their business this year. Roll on October and a new supplier.0

I've been with Octopus on their Helpful Octopus tariff (2-year fix) since March and am very happy with them. Switch was painless, and when I was struggling with mortgage and no work in lockdown, they let me keep my monthly payments the same, as I told them I don't want to be in credit and having to borrow at 5.5% to pay them over what I currently owed. I like how I don't have to keep logging in to their website, and they send a friendly reminder email each month for meter readings.

Plenty of people signed up to Octopus Energy 12 month fix from middle of September onwards when Octopus had actually increased cost of that tariff to new customers at the same time as Bulb announced increases to its variable rate tariff. The good news is Octopus have launched cheaper 12 month fix via Uswitch - Octopus Exclusive 12M Fixed November 2020 v3 (slightly more expensive than v2 noticed 27th November) which existing customers can change to by communicating to Octopus asking to be changed to that tariff, quickest responses from Octopus are communications via Twitter direct message otherwise email hellooctopus.energyhttps://octopus.energy/tariffs/ Put postcode in , dont click get quote to check out above named tariff rates4

I was moved to Octopus a couple of years ago when Iresa went bust. tariff was slightly higher but comparable to other options. I stayed with them until now as i hadn't found a better deal. However, my experience of them over the last three months means i would advise against using them.
The incompetence of their staff in incredible. In January I had smart meters installed. The engineer didn't link up the IHD saying that there was some issue with Octopus and someone would come in a couple of weeks to set it up. never happened, contacted Octopus several times but covid meant nothing was done.
I noticed that both the old and new meters were shown on my online account but assumed that this was for retrospective information. Well, that turned out to be a BIG mistake as Octopus hadn't deregisterd the gas meter, so, in September I got a call saying i owed £3,900 - about 15 years worth of gas for our usage, for the period from 30th January when the meter was uninstalled. They sorted it out - sort of. for some reason they now couldn't get a reading from the new smart gas meter even though it had been working fine up until September.
In October I got a notification of price rises so looked around and decided to move, now getting a final bill should be simple; they have the readings from October and final readings sent from the new supplier. Simple calculation? Not a chance. It seems that no-one at Octopus knows how to do those calculations, so first i get a gas bill for the period 30th January to 30th September and 1st October to 8th November, all relating to the old meter which was uninstalled. Clearly sorting out the mess up in September didn't actually sort it out. I sent a complaint and they have admitted that they are wrong and have removed that bill.
Problem solved? Err, no, not even close. As they still haven't deregisterd the old meter they can't get a bill to me yet but they did send me a 'final' electricity bill for the period 26th December 2019 to 30th January 2020 slightly revised from the original one that I paid, but they somehow expect me to pay it again!
This lot couldn't run the proverbial ****up in a brewery.
I have offered to go along and teach them how to do their jobs as they don't seem to have anyone there who knows what they are doing.

I moved house a year ago and was migrated to Octopus in the new property (don't ask). They struggled to get the gas account set up and when they did I had a bill for £300! They had already got the electric account set up but for some strange reason they set the DD at £30/month for both accounts. I waited expecting them to alter it but they didn't so the debt was growing ever bigger. Eventually I raised the DD to £100 myself and after 12 months I am nearly, just nearly out of debt. I have now transferred my gas to Zog but Octopus are still requesting gas meter readings! I'll be glad to be shut of them I just need to find a decent electric supplier now.

I want to change from Eon and I'm thinking about going over to Octopus, but I'm confused. Eon have 2 standing charges, one for Gas, one for Electricity, none for Economy 7, whereas Octopus also have one for Economy 7. Can somebody help plse? Many thanks.
Edit:
Oh I think I can answer my own query! As I have Economy 7 do I just take note of Eco7 Economy and then Gas and ignore the other Electricity one?
Money, money, money, must be funny, in the rich man's World!0 -

I've just tested the quote screen, as if I'd want an Economy 7 quote for electricity only, and it showed me:Day rate 17.451p per kWh
Night rate 10.416p per kWHStanding charge 20.1915p per day
This is as I'd expect it, rates for both Day and Night, and then a Standing Charge per day.
Your E-on Standing Charge for your Economy 7 tariff would be whatever it says for your Electricity Standing Charge1 -
