Interestingly back in 2019 I found a forum post stating there were other tariffs available that weren't on that page. Needless to say, when I received their response it contained tariffs that weren't on that page. Hoepfully they've updated that page to show all tariffs now as it'd definately save them some admin!

I've had my tariff plugged into the MSE Energy Club since we joined, and it's not shown any massive savings worth leaving the tariff. Even on Octopus's bill recommendation it's literally pennies if we switched, so happy where we are at the mo. I have been looking at their agile tariff recently, but need to do a bit more research first before making a decision.

Just for info if someone puts info into MSE Energy Club as an existing Octopus Customer wont show newer Octopus Exclusive Tariffs as they are designed/marketed for new customers, for the same reason Octopus Bill recommendation does not show these much cheaper Exclusive tariffs either, they do show up when put postcode in "our tariffs" link. https://octopus.energy/tariffs/ ( Tariff you are on shows as historical i have looked at the rates, Gas is very much higher due to Gas rates having fallen off a cliff this year, Electricity kwh rate more expensive as well)

Agile and Tracker have saved me a decent amount over the past 12 months. My initial quote from Octopus (on their basic fixed 12-month tariff) was £76 per month. Just calculated that I've actually averaged £62, even though I've been using around 10% more gas and electricity than my original quote.
The Tracker tariff by itself has consistently been cheaper than the fixed tariffs (even the Exclusive ones) with electricity around 11.5 p/kWh and gas 1.8 p/kWh. You don't need smart meters for Tracker, either.

Do you know how long roughly stated waiting list is please

Cannot seem to see the rates - "For electricity, wholesale costs are based on the Nordpool day ahead auction price. To find the latest figure, follow the previous link, set the currency to “GBP” and convert the price to kWh by dividing by 1,000."

I didn't have to join any waiting list - I just emailed them and asked to switch to Tracker and they sent me a URL to set it up.
Regarding the price calculation - follow the URL that Gerry1 has posted and then do the calculation. I set up a spreadsheet to keep a record of the daily charge just by inputting the Nordpool wholesale price.

Before I email Octopus to switch to the tracker tariff, am I right in thinking that the comma in the figures on Nordpool are actually a decimal point e.g. 28,96 is actually 28.96? I'm just trying to put together a spreadsheet so I can keep track of it.

Cheers for the info about the exclusive rates not showing on MSE Energy Club for existing members, and also that they now show all their tariffs. I'm annoyed at myself that I didn't know that as I like to stay on top of these things!

One thing I'm curious about is the "industry coefficient" they use to calculate the unit rate if you don't have a smart meter, any idea what this is? Or do they just average the Nordpool rate across the month? Also, how often are you giving meter readings on the tracker tariff?

    Pennies holding up the Pounds.
  • Absolute joke. Having been a homeowner and bill payer for 25yrs, Octopus are without question the most inept company ever. Countless phone calls and emails, yet they still are unable to resolve a billing error. To add insult to injury, they've changed my tariff and signed me up to a new 12M fixed tariff at their own behest.

Life is far too short to deal with this type of appalling service. You have a choice in who supplies your energy. My advce? Octopus should be your last choice of provider.

    Couldn't disagree more completely...
No idea why your problems have escalated to this degree, but in an effort to help, are your problems related to meter readings from a 'smart' meter? If so then use the dedicated email address smart@octopus.energy to directly reach the specialist smart team.
Also the tariff you are on is fixed only in that their pricing will not change during the 12 months, you are not locked into anything nor is their a penalty to change, so if that isn't the cheapest tariff for your needs then just ask to be put back onto whichever one it was or which ever you prefer to be on now... You can review all the current tariffs here: https://octopus.energy/tariffs/
Right now all providers are operating on minimal staffing so there are likely to be delays in answering queries whoever you are with.

Quick update: Been with octopus for a couple of months now. I've submitted two sets of meter readings and up to date bills have been available the same day. I am now £87 in credit and I notice a "return money to bank" link has appeared. When I click on it, it recommends I leave £30 and return £57 to my bank. I've left it for now, but what a refreshing difference to other suppliers. Well done, Octopus.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

My contract with Octopus ends soon, but from the impeccable way they operate I would not dream of going with anyone else. Just have to decide if I am going fixed or variable tariff for the next year.
