How are the bills for Tracker calculated for those without a smart meter, supplying monthly meter readings?

Is it 'simply' a case of taking the average daily energy use for the month (monthly total divided by the number of days), then multiplying that figure against the daily unit rates for each day of the month, and totaling it?

No - they use "industry data" to approximate the use each day. It actually turns out to be quite accurate.

Good question. In addition to above they also seem to assume more was used when it's colder in April for example. I'm not sure of exactly how they weight the average but it was slightly more using whatever formula they have than I got using the formula SJMALBA suggests.

According to email replies I've received from Octopus, you can go back on Flexible (SVT).

2nd April - 16th April Electricity Tracker average daily rate was 28.08p + VAT  against flexible rate my region of 28.01p INC Vat, Standing charge current tracker version 41.98p compared with 28.58p ish Flexible after loyalty discount

17th Apr 2022 — 16th May 2022  23.14p kWh + VAT

Is the tracker rate the same for the whole of Great Britain for both gas and electric or does it differ depending on what region you are in?

Varies by region. Guy Lipmans energy stats website will show regional variations and useful stats for both. Somebody will post you a link.
