I emailed them a week and a half ago (the 26th) asking to switch my gas to Tracker. (I hoped to ask early enough to miss the end-of-month rush.) Octopus finally replied yesterday, saying I should follow the instructions on the Tracker webpage. The instructions on the webpage say that existing customers should email Octopus to initiate a switch ...So I've replied, asking them to start the switch for me.I'll let you know how this ping-pong resolves itself!N. Initially on Flexible but joining Tracker some time thereafter. (They'll need to sort my smart gas meter out, it hasn't reported to the DCC since August.)N. Hampshire, he/him. Question - back in December the view was to move from tracker to flexible. Now you’re moving the other way? In what way has the current crisis made Tracker a better deal for some? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
An artificial cap on the price and the low standing charge has made a great difference, but it is not guaranteed to remain capped as low as it is now, so it is a move that is not without some risk...elsien said:Question - back in December the view was to move from tracker to flexible. When I switched from Tracker to Flexible last September, Octopus said Tracker was capped, as I've said before, with electricity at a max of 30p/kWh so just above the current Flexible rate. If this is still the case then there are possible gains if it dips below on some days. But we need confirmation of a Tracker cap and if so what it is for both fuels.MWT said:

Is tracker a smart meter only tariff? As it currently doesn't sit under Smart category.0
-
No, you don't need a smart meter. They can use industry algorithms to estimate your daily usage if necessary.Ally_E. said:Is tracker a smart meter only tariff? As it currently doesn't sit under Smart category.
I once had a whole month's usage estimated that way because of a missing reading. I asked them to retrieve the missing readings and recalculate the bill and it was within a few pence (in their favour, unfortunately!).0
