Octopus has just sent an estimated bill before I've had a chance to submit readings. The estimate is higher for both fuels than the actual readings I've just taken. Am I OK to just let it ride and submit readings later when they go past the estimate? Or is this fraud?
I would just submit an actual reading for later in the month. You are not providing them with false information and under no obligation to correct a small inaccuracy in the readings used for an estimated bill.

It’s only fraud if you submit false readings. If their estimates are inaccurate then so be it.

Well it's not a major overestimate so will let it ride given the annual cost was already well over £3k and the balance is minus a lot (about £1000 owing). Think I'll pay off a few hundred in addition to the direct debit as I have some cash to hand which may forestall a DD increase.

But can they readjust things if the next actual reading seems low? Or is midnight tonight a cut off for everything that happens from tomorrow?

Yes, they can recalculate estimated bills once they get accurate readings.

Estimates can always be adjusted when they get an actual reading, if it isn't far out though it is unlikely.
If it is a long way out then it becomes more likely...

It's about 500 kWh for electric (est. total about 2.5k) and about 80 units for gas (total about 350). Anyway I was dreading reading the meters as I thought it would be way higher than the estimates.

A reading towards the end of this month will allow you to use your spin on the wheel of fortune, get another bill after ~1 month and give enough time to even consumption out such that it would be indistinguishable from normal seasonal changes in consumption.

How did you measure the 0.5 kW consumption? And can you measure the actual output of the panels?
Most solar inverters these days have some form of management app, if you want to tell us the make and model of what you have there we can probably point you in the right direction.

Is there another forum somewhere where one can discuss the technicalities of SV panels and inverters without getting shot at for straying off topic?
