But we need confirmation of a Tracker cap and if so what it is for both fuels.
The only confirmation you can get is that right now, as of this minute the cap they put in last year is still in place (30p/6p electric/gas).
They could remove or change it any time they want.

Interim query: Smart meters are not exclusive to Octopus. But is Octopus the only company to have exploited the technology to use time sensitive pricing to promote load shifting?

There are a few other companies with multi-rate tariffs, including Green Energy UK's "Tide" tariff. I'm not aware of another company employing 30-minute pricing, or with such a wide range of off-peak periods.

I can see the forum logic in exchanging info on such alternatives, as they arrive on the scene, as the terms of Octopus' innovative tariffs become less attractive and we might be obliged to look around. Trouble is that the Green Energy link appeared to be non functional due to - wait for it - unprecedented demand.

It's due to unprecedented market volatility, according to the quote page. This would make sense.

So it makes sense to switch to Tracker now especially for the gas price. They would give notice of change and one could go back to Flexible. But with central heating going off in the warmer weather it's not a big deal.

Is anyone on Tracker - can you post the day rates from recent bills?

I don't think there is any requirement to give notice before removing the price cap. It is an unofficial favour to those on the tariff and forms no part of your contract. Tracker is not subject to the Ofgem cap.

You can check the historic Tracker prices here:
These are the uncapped prices, what people are actually billed is limited to 30p/6p Electricity/Gas
There would be no obligation to give notice of a change if the cap was changed or removed.

My experience with Octopus is they let you know if they change your terms although you do have to look out for emails.

That is true, but I suggest caution in this case as the current cap is not contractual and is therefore not necessarily subject to the usual notifications.
... especially if a load of people suddenly try to move to this tariff... :)
