Their social media people need to be told that the Go off-peak rates have gone up today :/

Well yet again I am at odds with Octopus.....I have put it down in the past to them taking so many of us Avro customers....but I can confirm that I have only been asked once to give meter reading and after searching all my Octopus emails - they seem to notify you that your DD will be taken about 10 days prior so I shall do meter reading on receipt of this.

So today I did that and upon entering the gas I found they had estimated reading on 1st Jan ( no email requesting reading) to make it worse it was a whooping 42 units higher on 1st Jan than it is today.

Plus it seems a bit gimmicky, what with a wheel of fortune thing and recommend a friend for payment thing.....I guess its a new way of doing things :)

Just to add this is what I was sent in mid Novemeber which I did -  and no I did not get an accurate energy statement.  Still none - next they will request I have a smart meter.  I knew where I was with Avro monthly readings and I never missed.

Submit your meter readings for an accurate energy statement, generally within 48 hours.

We don't do monthly statements. Instead, we send you one whenever you send us a reading. This system isn't common in energy, but give us a few minutes and we'll tell you why we think it's better.

If you've recently had a smart meter installed, you'll still get these reminders while we try to connect to it, which can take up to 14 days. You don't need to submit a reading — feel free to ignore this and get on with your day.

If you want to read you meter daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly it's up to you. You could easily write a reminder in your diary or set a recurring event on your phone.

They can't start billing you until they have fully taken over your supply (including validating the opening reading), which probably wasn't the case in mid-November. As you say, the DD reminder serves as a good prompt to submit a reading if you don't want to set your own.

Those with Octopus Go renewing from now on might find this useful, it relates to how Octopus have now closed loophole where those who did nothing were being renewed on original rates
"I'm afraid as of from now on anyone receiving the 45-day renewal email and ignoring it will roll onto the Flexible Octopus tariff"

  • I take it that this is not relevant to Go Faster customers? My bill has been delayed for quite some time now so I cannot check.

Reference to "Go" relates also to Go Faster.

No surprises about renewals. What is a surprise is that it seems they will continue to "lose a fortune" rather than making their prices reflective of the fixed costs mentioned. The obvious way to address this while maintaining cheap charging rates for EV owners would be to hike the standing charges and/or peak rate. Perhaps I'm missing something.
  • Mine is up for renewal in august, so I take it I won’t get the same rate and it will be whatever it is at the time?
