I know it's got colder, but come on

£21569 of gas in one half hour period!
Octopus have understandably contacted the DCC and are awaiting a response.

This is mine today glad it's not just me

There is a known problem where the meter gives a hex read error code that gets interpreted as a consumption reading, that usually results in a number over 16,000 cubic meters. It doesn’t affect the meter index so never gets used for billing.4

I've done just that.masonic said:
My reading of it is that they will use what data they have available, so if you have only recently moved into the property you may be out of luck, but you could always sign up and then ignore the promotion if you don't get a reasonable target.badger09 said:
Thanks for the links masonic. Must admit, I'm not really any wiser. I was trying to establish whether the 'historical data' would be based on the previous use in a specific property. If it is, then there's no chance of us reducing our usage below that 'historical data' since previous owners hardly ever had the CH heating on.masonic said:
As per the T&C (my emphasis): "Entrants will have a Personal Target calculated for them by Octopus Energy, based on their “annual quantity” (or AQ) of gas as outlined in Uniform Network Code H3.2.1 (the “Personal Target”). The AQ is calculated by Xoserve and will be based on historical data, recorded before the start of the qualifying period."badger09 said:
I'm curious. What 'historical data' will be used to calculate the 'annual quantity' on which the personal reduction target will be based?masonic said:This might be of interest to anyone using Octopus for gas:I don't know how many gas customers Octopus has, but presumably it is a small fraction of its total ~3m customers, many of whom won't sign up. So the odds of winning and share of the final pot everyone who hits their target gets might be worth the effort of signing up! Shame I don't have a gas supply.
You can find some information from Xoserve about how the AQ is calculated here and here.
We're actually trying to minimise CH usage at the moment as we almost certainly have a leak in the pipes buried somewhere, so there might be an outside chance. Trying to remain 'glass half full' after this latest, in a series of unpleasant surprises.0 -
How widespread is it? Does it only affect certain meters?MWT said:There is a known problem where the meter gives a hex read error code that gets interpreted as a consumption reading, that usually results in a number over 16,000 cubic meters. It doesn’t affect the meter index so never gets used for billing.4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.0 -
If you have a L&G G470 gas meter then you may be seeing what is known as a Hexadecimal error. Although it shows on the graph, it does not affect billing.Grizzlebeard said:
I'd say reading back on the time scale it looks like the peak is about 8pm the previous evening rather than midnight.Spies said:Anyone else seeing random (massive) gas readings around midnight on their data? It's not affecting the meter reads but it's annoying non-the-less.

Still a massive spike though.0 -

Just a bit annoying when you're trying to review your usage and the real data is unreadable due to the scale.MWT said:Spies said:

If you hover your mouse over the bars you should get a pop-up to say how much you used in that half hour?Spies said:Just a bit annoying when you're trying to review your usage and the real data is unreadable due to the scale.
