Octopus Energy reviews: Give your feedback

Telegraph_Sam said:Has anyone got a spare EV that I could borrow and register at this address? There are other time-of-use tariffs that don't require an EV. Green Energy UK for example have their Tide tariff which would work with a home battery, but it isn't anything like as as attractive as Go or Go Faster.Or for £5k you can buy a used Nissan Leaf

I did have an EV when I originally went onto Go Faster but I don't recall being asked about it. The lease has now finished so I'll no doubt have to change to a non-ToU tariff next April.0

Good idea: Go for a 1 (?) month lease of a EV, long enough to register it.
Like you I cannot recall being asked about this at the time of joining GF. But come next April - July there must be some ToU tariffs without EV strings surely?
As an aside, why is it that gas (and electricity) prices are so much flavour of the month at present with comparatively little being said or heard about oil?Telegraph Sam

Telegraph_Sam said:As an aside, why is it that gas (and electricity) prices are so much flavour of the month at present with comparatively little being said or heard about oil?Relatively few homes are heated by oil, it can be bought well in advanced and stored in a tank by the end user, and is usually cheapest to buy in the summer so many will have topped up before the recent crises hit. The price of heating oil has gone up nearly 50% since August, but it is not as though people can easily switch from burning gas to oil and drive up prices - they are not abnormally high, rather they more likely have just recovered from a pandemic dip.0

Valid points but I still find it hard to grasp why so little prominence is given to this "market". I have a rural property up north where the only viable fuel (apart from wood) is oil and the price rises you describe have prompted me to "look around". Google does list some oil comparison sites but relatively obscure ones. Octopus is unlikely to get into the oil market so a topic for another forum I fearTelegraph Sam

The guy that oversees Octopus’ Go and Go Faster tariffs has just posted that the new condition relating to EV ownership will not be applied to existing Go/Go Faster customer accounts at renewal. For new customers wanting to select Go or Go Faster, then EV ownership is a must.

It’s only new Go & Go Faster agreements (either new customers or renewals) that will now see the requirement for an EV. Anyone on Go & Go Faster already (before that new term was added a few weeks ago) won’t be affected by this new term.
I take that as meaning the new terms will apply to both new agreements and existing agreements at renewal.0 -
So that means that there are two categories of renewers depending on when they signed up originally. Obvious question: When was this date "a few weeks ago'"? And: How do I or anyone else know whether we are amongst the favoured few?Telegraph Sam
