So that means that there are two categories of renewers depending on when they signed up originally. Obvious question: When was this date "a few weeks ago'"? And: How do I or anyone else know whether we are amongst the favoured few?
I think it's pretty clear. If you're already on Go or Go Faster it will be honoured until the end of your current agreement. You'll then need an EV if you want to renew the agreement.
  • I'm not sure if that doesn't conflict with Dolor's interpretation depending on when exactly the subscriber originally joined. Those with registered Time Machines don't have this worry

There are also unknown unknowns - the one's we don't know we don't know
  • Perhaps we could have a link so we can interpret ourselves ?

In this instance Dolor's interpretation is wrong sadly.
We can't link to it as it is a customer only forum, but the message was clear that the EV requirement will be there for both new and renewing customers, so not a 2 class system...
Umiamz already quoted the relevant part of the post a few mins ago...

  • Am I just dim or was it not quoted that "early renewers" would qualify for the original existing terms (flexible in respect of EV's) at renewal whereas "late renewers" would not? The distinction being the date of joining "several weeks ago"? I can't see how else to interpret Octopus's statement other than to argue over how long ago "several weeks" constitutes.

What he is saying is that existing Go/Go Faster customers who signed up before the new term came into effect won’t be kicked off the tariff before their agreement ends. Go (Faster) customers who signed up since the term came into effect will already have complied with the terms. Finally, ALL current customers will have to comply with the terms when they renew their Go (Faster) agreement.

You need not worry, Sam - your current agreement will be honoured.

Apart from just when the new term came  into effect the ambiguity seems to surround what happens while existing agreements are in force compared with what happens at the respective renewal times. I read it that "early joiners" could continue after renewal as is whereas "late joiners" could not. I can see now that different interpretations are possible and that come renewal everyone will be in the same boat. If so this will amount to discrimination against non-EV people which as I have said seems a bit self defeating - but ours is not to reason why in energy matters.
May be MSE can create a referrals board for tradijng in EV registrations  :)

I think people should stop worrying about "what happens at renewal" for now and "how octopus will interpret" their own rules. Just enjoy some of the cheapest electricity rates for now by some margin on your go faster tariff, when it comes to renewal time you will be able to do a comparison to see how the tariff offered to you will compare to all the others on the market and whether you will be allowed to stay on go/go faster

Whether you think octopus are discriminatory or not to ev or non ev customers is largely irrelevant. They can withdraw the tariff, change the terms or do whatever they wish at whatever time they want to whoever they want as there is no rule about what they offer anyone at any time other than honouring the "12 month contract" when you sign up. They don't need to justify why they do it to any of us.
  • I can agree with and have never disputed most if not all of what is contained in your second para. As I said  it was not my intention to get them to "justify" what they do

  • Seems I got on the tarrif by the whisker of my teeth, I had been waiting for a smart meter and it to stop being dumb and luckily for off the agile tarrif that was proving not very lucky 🍀
