Not easy to follow the logic in this since it strays onto the moral ethical stage which leads into lengthy arguments.  One could pursue that stance to mean that all "attractive" deals and tariffs are withdrawn in order to level the playing field. But the fact is that the Power Hour was announced and introduced, exists rightly or wrongly, to some if not all Octopus customers.  If then as the next step this group is further segmented into those that know and those that don't, the logic does seem to struggle further..  There may well be other relevant facts of course which I am not aware of.

They did ask that people didn't post about this on social media as they felt it was in poor taste given that so many are struggling right now...
I did see that quote in their email but don’t class an energy forum for money savers as “social media”, I posted it merely to give a heads up to people who had already signed up who may miss the email considering it’s quite short notice. I also didn’t mention what the power hour consisted of…..though I do agree the sentiment that bloating about it on twitter/facebook/insta isn’t the most sympathetic.

I'll just add that Octopus have offered a facility to allow people, who are so minded, to donate any gain they make from the event to a worthy energy related charity...
    I'll leave it at that.

Yes, I was pleased to see this and it seemed only fair to choose this option, given that I’m already on one of their original Go Faster tariffs.

Whilst power hour is being made available to all customers with smart meter 1/2 hour readings can be taken from and have opted in ,around the time Power Hour was initially mentioned on Twitter by customers, Octopus did say on Twitter words to effect it had been intended to be a fun thing for those who were having smart meters installed.
Hence why at that time it was only known about via customer twitter tweets, here and Octopus customer led facegroups etc

  • Not being a Twitterer myself I was not aware of the background to the introduction of PH. It does seem strange that this is being "marketed" by word of mouth only with its customer segmentation. The fact remains that I applied for access and my registration was apparently accepted. Being then denied the benefit through ignorance comes over as a lack of joined up thinking somewhere

  • Why does Octopus not have its own section on MSE forum?
Why is this a single huge thread?

It would be counterproductive, no supplier has their own section, and most questions can be answered by knowledgeable customers of many other suppliers.
Similarly actual CS from the supplier itself do not tend to post on here so there is nothing to gain from breaking down the forum inot supplier level sections, and much to lose.

Octopus also have their own smart forum, for those on smart tariffs (go/go faster/agile) You do have to be an octopus customer to view/contribute though.

The guy that oversees Octopus’ Go and Go Faster tariffs has just posted that the new condition relating to EV ownership will not be applied to existing Go/Go Faster customer accounts at renewal. For new customers wanting to select Go or Go Faster, then EV ownership is a must.
What he said (if we're referring to the same person) was:

It’s only new Go & Go Faster agreements (either new customers or renewals) that will now see the requirement for an EV. Anyone on Go & Go Faster already (before that new term was added a few weeks ago) won’t be affected by this new term.

I take that as meaning the new terms will apply to both new agreements and existing agreements at renewal.
I think that you are right. I had latched on to the second sentence which appeared to suggest Grandfathered rights for many non EV owners on Go and Go Faster.
If anyone on Go / Go Faster thinks they might need an EV, I note that brand-new electric mopeds start at less than £2k.
(If you're near Surbiton, this used model is £350 - needs some work to put it back on the road but would technically meet the requirement to be an EV owner!)
