Any likelihood of those of us allready established go users being pushed off it ?
At renewal, perhaps. If you said you had an EV but don't, maybe. If they let you on the tariff knowing you didn't have an EV then it would we unwise of them to try kicking you off before the fixed term ends, and probably result in an upheld complaint.

It depends on whether people have bothered to read the contract terms and conditions:

    1. Our Octopus Go Tariff is designed for customers who either own or long term lease a battery electric vehicle or a plug-in hybrid vehicle that they will be charging at home. If you sign up to our Octopus Go tariff but do not meet this eligibility criteria we can place you on an alternative tariff that we consider is more appropriate for your circumstances. We will let you know if we do this and advise you of the rates and terms that apply to the alternative tariff.
Whether Octopus will invoke this right is an issue for Octopus, but it is clear it does have the right to change the tariff mid contract if these terms and conditions applied when people signed up for Go/Go Faster.

It is also worth pointing out that if a meter has an issue and Octopus is unable to bill using HH data then there are also some relevant ts and Cs relating to billing.

Those terms definitely did apply to anyone on a current Go/Go Faster tariff, but I contest that they give Octopus the right to change the tariff mid contract if the customer informed them in advance through the survey that they did not meet the criteria and were nevertheless invited onto the tariff. This would be extremely deceptive and unfair practice to lure customers in to an apparently cheap tariff knowing from the outset they could invoke that clause at any time of their choosing over the 12 month period, then bait and switch at a time when the customer would have no alternative but to accept whatever is offered. I should think any customer that is subject to such practice should have a very strong case with the Energy Ombudsman.

I would agree with you on that point, if people indicated that their high usage device was a 'washing machine' and they were put on the tariff anyway then they would probably win their case.
If they lied about owning an EV then they would not have that protection.
All very academic though as Octopus tends to be very customer friendly in its actions so I'd be inclined to take the firming up as a solid notice that those without an EV are unlikely to be able to renew on those tariffs, but I wouldn't expect major efforts to kick them off in the meantime...

OK so just been emailed and offered the below. I take it it's a no brainer to switch to it.

    FLEXIBLE OCTOPUS

    Electricity unit price
    20.58p/kWh

    Electricity standing charge

    23.30p/day

    Gas unit price

    4.14p/kWh

    Gas standing charge

    26.11p/day

Good to have it confirmed that Octopus is still letting people on that tariff.
  • Excerpt from environmental BBC R4 programme earlier today. Survey into what motivates the average consumer to invest (or not invest) in a EV. Top motivation: "Where can I charge my car?" Few surprises that this comcern rated ahead of fuel / energy cost considerations.

Top motivation? You mean top concern right?

The worry regarding evs is with popularity increasing , the charging infrastructure isn't increasing at the same rate. There will come a point where more people when trying to access public chargers will find that they are occupied. Cars with faster dc charging capabilities such as hyundais ioniq 5 and porsche taycan will definitely help with this, so long as 150+kwh chargers increase. (They certainly are increasing in my local area in London in the petrol forecourts opening several ev bays.

The ev charger grant is also changing, thus giving more access to grants to freeholders and leaseholders of flats to equip private parking with charging points.

This illustrates the importance of at home charging, for which innovative electricity tariffs form a cornerstone.

Though this (vital?) distinction was not made in the Octopus survey
