Well it seems that the Tracker is actually the best deal for us - it's a cheaper projection than the two deals the site is offering us.
You will not see the SVT being offered if you are asking the Octopus website to give you a quote as that is not being offered to new customers.
If you are already an Octopus customer on a fixed tariff then when your fix ends you will be able to go onto the SVT, or if you are arriving with Octopus as part of the SoLR process you will similarly go onto the SVT, so do compare your options against the 'Flexible Octopus October 2021 v2' tariff before you decide...

We're on the Tracker. I can't get the site to show the flexible tariff when logged in. What are the current rates on the October tariff? I have emailed them asking if it would be beneficial to switch but no reply - I imagine they are somewhat busy...

Can you remind me how to show the full range of tariffs?

  • Are Octopus taking on new customers at the moment?
There "Quote Me button" link on the website is not working...
Glad I signed up 5 months ago at cheap rates (3.01p for gas and 16.11p for electricity)

I used the term dishwasher in this conversation as shorthand for all high kW appliances other than EV's and ask that my comments be understood as such. Whether Octopus chooses to publicise the figures or not is a matter for their PR Dept.
The point remains thst whoever is excluded from the Go Faster scheme on the basis of EV non-ownership will then (depending on the options of course) take his consumption to non off peak periods. This may be regarded as an acceptable price to pay in return for favouring EV owners. It should be weighed in the balance. But not ignored.
I agree that at the end of the dsy Octopus is totally at liberty to offer whatever terms it sees fit to whatever new customers it chooses. Ours is not to reason why.,
I seem to recall that when I signed up for GF I was asked to name which high watt appliances I could load shift within the off peak time slots. The question was never put if included in these there was a EV.. EV's may have been mentioned only as an example.
The features of a dishwasher I decided to pick on (that it cannot store and release energy to power other things, and don't result in the reduction of air pollution or burning of fossil fuels) applies to most other high load appliances.
The issue here is that the general load shifting tariff (Agile) has been rendered a dead duck due to high wholesale energy costs. Perhaps when wholesale prices are a bit more reasonable there is space for some sort of hybrid tariff to be created whereby energy can be imported at a hedged price.
The terms and conditions of Go and Go Faster are clear. I'm fairly confident EVs and batteries were listed among the high load appliances they requested people declare. Presumably the survey is used to estimate consumption for hedging purposes and/or quotas for the relevant timeslot.

One could I suppose make a distinction between 1. a EV and 2. a battery and come up with different criteria for each - but I take your point. It is a matter of not getting bogged down in minute detail but rather focus on the main objective - which I myself interpret to be to make it as attractive as possible for consumers, as a group, to load shift into the off peak hours regardless of usage, Be that through a hybrid tariff or a simple alternative Go-a-bit-Faster tariff I leave to the experts.to decide.

I believe I too can remember high load appliances being listed in either the T's and C's or on a companion (survey) document. But what is clear is that if one truthfully did NOT declare a EV or battery, one was NOT then debarred from subscribing to the GF tariff with a clear conscience.

There are also unknown unknowns - the one's we don't know we don't know

You said you didn't even read the terms and conditions, so how are you now recalling seeing high load appliances in there!! They aren't.

You are mistaking this for the go faster sign up survey where it asks what appliances you use. These included an ev, a battery and other appliances like washing machine.

I think youre overthinking it too much. Don't worry your tariff is safe Sam!! :)

Unlikely to happen mid-term, but you might expect some tougher questions at the end of your fixed term when it comes to renewal.
