So glad I managed to fix our gas on Octopuses Price Promise July 2021 v1 earlier this year until 03/09/2023, and I was late to make a move too! 3.17p/kWh / 25.43p/d standing charge.
Octopus Price Promise July 2021 v1 is not a fixed tariff, variable rate guaranteed to be a certain %  below  price cap based on Ofgem averages.

Oh I know, I use the term loosely in that they have to give me notice if the rate is going to change, which it hasn't since I've been on it, in effect it's been fixed since I've been on it :D
    Pennies holding up the Pounds.

  • I think they'll continue to rise, like others have said in this thread, gas is becoming the black sheep of the energy industry as the government make the push towards heat pumps.

Is there a thread for heat pumps?  If these are destined to be the new in thing there ought to be.   I suspect that without advice it would not be difficult to lose money on these things [like with solar batteries ...]

There are also unknown unknowns - the one's we don't know we don't know

Just out of interest did you go on it on 3rd September when from memory it was not a current tariff available to new signups ?

So I'm currently on Igloo but have moved to Octopus Go (and eventually Faster). Thanks @bristolleedsfan for the advice

In terms of the gas element, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm better off staying with Igloo for gas at 3.938p for another year correct?

    Gas - look at Zog.

Just so you know, Octopus Go Faster is deemed to be a beta tariff. For successful billing, Octopus needs access to continuous 30 minute usage data (pulled from the meter once a day).  This continues to be problematic. For example, many of us have had no daily import data for the past 6 months due to a meter firmware problem. These issues can be resolved but it can at times be frustrating. In the event that Octopus fails to retrieve your data automatically or manually then you will default to Octopus’ flexible tariff. From the terms and conditions for Go:

    1. By taking Octopus Go, you agree to us using half-hourly consumption data collected from your smart meter to bill you.
    2. In the absence of half hourly smart meter data, we will charge you as we would a customer on our Flexible Octopus variable tariff, based on typical consumption patterns (known as “Profile 1”).
    3. Octopus Go is a beta product. This means some things may not work first time or may break and that on occasion data issues with smart meters can take significant time to fix or prevent things working at all. You will always be able to switch to one of our fairly priced standard tariffs at any time

I could be completely wrong but Zog look a bit cowboy / low tech? Not enough feedback on Martin's energy switcher as well?
You are totally wrong. Zog is no Octopus,  but as a company it has been in business a lot longer. I switched last month and I have already received a statement based on my smart meter readings. Gas doesn’t really need much technology as all billing is based on meter readings. I should that their email response times are significantly better than those claimed by Octopus. I can see all my gas usage on the App BRIGHT so I don’t need the supplier to spend £000s on a fancy website.

Well Logicor lost my switch request so I've signed up to join Octopus for electricity in a fortnight-ish from now (my thanks to one of the thread regulars for the referral code). Much like Sam I'm aiming for Go / Go Faster.
My smart meters are only 2 months old and EDF have been pulling 30-minute data successfully so I'm hoping Octopus won't have trouble either.
I think they'll continue to rise, like others have said in this thread, gas is becoming the black sheep of the energy industry as the government make the push towards heat pumps.

There's a big thread for heat pumps over in the "other fuels" section:

My gas switch to Zog is already underway and should take place next week.

That's interesting - I wasn't aware that Zog support smart meters. Perhaps they'll be able to read mine (Secure Liberty SMETS1) which, according to Octopus, is currently being enrolled and adopted into the DCC.

I hope I'm not joining that cohort of customers. I've had no new usage data through Octopus for nearly a week. I've previously had no issues other than the odd missed day which they've been able to pull manually. It prompted me to check through n3rgy and they can see all of the missing data...

Sounds like a DCC or Adapter issue. They are reports that Octopus is dealing with a number of smart meter data issues. If your statement doesn’t arrive as expected, then you may need to give smart@octopus.energy a gentle nudge. I was reading a comment on another forum which said that Octopus has not as yet been able to automate the missing data recovery process.
