  • As soon as the SOLR is chosen and I’m free to I’ll probably do so. I’d even get 2 spins on the wheel of fortune if I did!
  • So I'm currently on Igloo but have moved to Octopus Go (and eventually Faster). Thanks @bristolleedsfan for the advice

In terms of the gas element, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm better off staying with Igloo for gas at 3.938p for another year correct?

    Gas - look at Zog.

Just so you know, Octopus Go Faster is deemed to be a beta tariff. For successful billing, Octopus needs access to continuous 30 minute usage data (pulled from the meter once a day).  This continues to be problematic. For example, many of us have had no daily import data for the past 6 months due to a meter firmware problem. These issues can be resolved but it can at times be frustrating. In the event that Octopus fails to retrieve your data automatically or manually then you will default to Octopus’ flexible tariff. From the terms and conditions for Go:

    1. By taking Octopus Go, you agree to us using half-hourly consumption data collected from your smart meter to bill you.
    2. In the absence of half hourly smart meter data, we will charge you as we would a customer on our Flexible Octopus variable tariff, based on typical consumption patterns (known as “Profile 1”).
    3. Octopus Go is a beta product. This means some things may not work first time or may break and that on occasion data issues with smart meters can take significant time to fix or prevent things working at all. You will always be able to switch to one of our fairly priced standard tariffs at any time

I could be completely wrong but Zog look a bit cowboy / low tech? Not enough feedback on Martin's energy switcher as well?
  • If I may add to the above: After some "persuasion" I made the transition to Go Faster [without actually "passing Go"!!!] myself not so long ago. Despite my scepticism about smart meters, so far I have had nothing to complain about. Even if I had, the cost advantages of Go Faster would compensate. The net average costs make Avro & co look pricey.
Sure this would change if I got switched to their standard tariffs.  Octopus do however have the reputation of being more clued up with smart meter technology than many of their competitors.
Conversely I would guess that any gas tariff has got to be better than Octopus Standard Flexible!  On the basis of advice that I was given I moved to SO Energy fixed which I believe is amongst the most favourable.

Cheap and cheerful, is how I would describe them. My switching date is tomorrow and everything has gone fine, so far. You don't have an account that you can log into - you just submit readings using a form on their website and they email you a monthly statement. I'm not going to complain, having locked in 3.16p/kWh for two years.

Regarding feedback - no news is good news  ;)

Zog has exit fees and  now a lot more expensive for fixed rates than has been mentioned.- 4.25pkwh rate my region
SSE  2 Year Fix v8 tariff - GAS ONLY - Smart Meter offered - Not Compulsory 4.15kwh my region, No exit fees
So Energy now have one of the most expensive gas tariffs 5.73p kwh my region - £10 exit fee
  • So do we think that the 1st October gas prices for Igloo will actually go up again in the new year? Even after the 1st Oct increase they're still *lower* than most other companies. Bit confusing
  • So glad I managed to fix our gas on Octopuses Price Promise July 2021 v1 earlier this year until 03/09/2023, and I was late to make a move too! 3.17p/kWh / 25.43p/d standing charge.

I think they'll continue to rise, like others have said in this thread, gas is becoming the black sheep of the energy industry as the government make the push towards heat pumps.

Just the same way we're seeing petrol prices rise in an effort to push people towards all electric and hybrid vehicles, in line with the government's aims to ban new petrol and diesel vehicle manufacture.
