Remember my menu yesterday? Well it went pear shaped...

and today hasn't got off to the greatest of starts either....

Anyhow. I caught a clip of the health programme that was on last night and saw that the male participant had an all singing all dancing spreadsheet to help plan his menus and food choices. Does anyone use anything like this?

Heron Foods has Ben & Jerrys Blueberry Cheesecake 500ml tubs on 2 for £1.50. 100g of it is 11 syns but it was delicous and was actually a lot, more than I probably really wanted.

So 5.5 syns for 50g is still a decent scoop and it really is nice!

Going back today to see if they have some more
  • Morning All!

I've been AWOL this week as have been visiting OH's family in Aberdeen so 3 days in a hotel with all you can eat breakfasts and eating out every night including the annual family meal at the local curry house

Then 3 days with my own family in Ayrshire staying with my mum (who brings me cups of tea and a mini roll every 5 seconds :o) and celebrating my nephew's 7th birthday. So all in all a pretty syn-tastic week :(

Weight gain of +1LB please. I feel I've gotten off lightly to be honest! But feel pretty squidgy and lethargic. Looking forward to getting back on the good stuff.

Wiggly - I have a similar issue. I work shifts and am self employed. My places of work only have a kettle/hot water machine so my lunches are pretty limited too. I work in live news so I cannot leave my room when we're on-air and have to be nearby in case of breaking news. I usually have to flag a passerby to ask for a cup of water to be brought in! No fridge either so I have to have something that is OK sitting in my bag in a fairly warm room for 6/7hours. My breakfast of choice is plain porridge - various consistencies depending on the size of mug brought to me :A Lunch at the moment is a huge bed of salad (spinach, lettuce, spring onions, cherry tomatoes, beetroot) with 1 sweet potato, 2 carrots, peas, tofu. The sweet potato, carrots and tofu are Roasted dry in the oven the night before but sprinkled with LOADS of garlic powder, chives and basil. They are very flavoursome and break up the monotony of the salad. I snack on cherry tomatoes and usually 1 apple. I always carry a tin of mackeral in brine or spring water. Depending on where i am i have that too. But only if i can get out to the loo to drain it and scoff it in a well ventilated corridor!

My mum is also doing SW and recommended me to get some Mugshots packets in. I used to make my own "pot noodles" but unsure if they are syn free - I'll work it out and post the recipe if they turn out to be fairly healthy :)

Today's meal so far has been breakfast of 35g blueberry Wheats, raspberries, strawberries, plum, Apple and dollop of Total 0% Greek yoghurt. Stuffed now :T

Heading out later to try to find some Arla Protein 20 pots that I tried at my mums. Really delicious! X

I use MyFitnessPal (app and website) to log everything I eat/drink/exercise. It's bit awkward to find items initially, but it suggests frequent/common items which takes most of the pain out of it. You can add recipes etc as well.

Picked up some Warburtons Rye sandwich thins, they are delicious and I think I'm addicted, 100kcal a thin.

Made a lemon/dill sauce for fish from an old magazine recipie, and it was amazing. It was veg stock, quark, 1 tablesp light mayo, zest and juice of a lemon and fresh dill (serves 4). Had it with frozen swordfish steaks from Aldi which look like a temporary special on at the moment.
  • Lantanna re: the boiled eggs....I soft boil them at home and bring them to work. Keep them in the shell - I boil the kettle and put the eggs in a mug and cover with the boiling water. I leave them in for about 10 minutes or so. They're not piping hot but definitely hot enough to be pleasant. :)
  • STS for me this week please Shala. I'm ok with that as I haven't been particularly strict and I haven't done much exercise..... must try harder over the weekend!!
Finally debt free!! March 2018 :j
  • OK so I've checked the ingredients of the homemade "pot noodle" or "Not Noodle" as I call it and it seems mostly ok I think?

The original recipe is this one from Hugh https://www.rivercottage.net/recipes/chorizo-tomato-instant-noodles-in-a-pot that I adapted over time as I didn't have some of his ingredients and I dislike passata. But his looks OK too - apart from the chorizo!

My adaptation was using an organic stock cube (crumple it up first) or a heaped teaspoon of organic veg bouillion powder. Noodles at the bottom. They MUST be quick cook ones. Read the back to see if you can boil them in 3 minutes. Then I chucked in a big pile of sainsbury basics mixed veg, spring onions, a cube of frozen spinach and either frozen sweetcorn or frozen peas. And LOADS of mixed herbs. A squeeze of garlic puree if you have any - 1syn.

A few things to be aware of. Everything must be thawed and room temperature before you put the water in or it chills it too much and it's too cold to eat. Put the noodles at the bottom so that they are completely covered by water. They will soften but take around 5 minutes rather than 3 mins due to you not actually boiling them. If you can cover it tightly whilst waiting for it to "cook" then it keeps it warmer than if you leave it open. I use a nutribullet container as it screws but any container would be fine. Soy sauce makes a nice addition but I'm unsure of the syns. If it's a bit watery or if you want it more of a soup then add a bit more stock powder.

I guess it's just a way to have a type of soup if you only have access to a kettle and want something a bit more filling than a powdered cup a soup type thing.

    Stock powder - free
    Noodles - free
Mixed veg - mostly speedy apart from the sweetcorn
    Peas - speedy
    Spinach- speedy
    Spring onions - speedy
    Herbs - free
Garlic - powder or chopped is free but puree is 1 syn per tbsp
    Optional soy sauce - ??

This is just what I put in mine - I'm sure it's completely adaptable :)

    That's a great result. Well done!:T

Those sandwich thins are 5 syns each New Me. Are they thick enough to use as a pitta type sandwich?

That's not a bad gain for having a break with family NLC and once you get back on plan properly you should be fine. One tip if you don't have a fridge at work is to freeze a small bottle of water and put it in with your lunch. It acts like a cool bag and you can drink it afterwards if you want.

Don't think 4lbs in 3 weeks before my hols is doable tho that would get me to target of 3 stones.

All you can do is give it your best shot. That's what I plan to do, starting from today. Well actually started from Monday after a horrendous week last week full of wine syns and unhealthy food. Looking at the week ahead I've got one carvery meal planned so that won't be too bad.

WI for me this morning and I'd gained 0.5lbs which is fine. That puts me 1lb above target but still in the range. I go away on 14th June and I'd love to lose 4lbs.

Nothing much of interest at group today. I did see the new diaries/planners which looked smart and I'm sure would help anyone who finds it hard to plan or stay on track.

There was discussion about how best to do pulled pork in the SC as some were saying that they throw away the sauce because it's vinegary and just eat the flavoured meat. I haven't had pulled pork since Tesco changed the recipe. Any recommendations for a good recipe?

Consultant had bottles like this on display

This is a cheapo one but there are others on Amazon. I might give one a try. I want to try upping my water intake, mainly to make sure I don't go over my HEB of milk.

    Today's EE plan:
B: NAS grapefruit, HEB Shreddies with HEA milk
L: JP with cottage cheese, leaves and pickles
D: sausage, mash, fried onions, carrots, cabbage, cauliflower, peas
Syns: squirt of syrup, 2 syns for BGTY sausages, gravy
