Damaged my car due to grit bin in the road, can i claim from council/RA?

As much as it sucks, you don't have a claim; you hit a stationary object (that was probably bright yellow) at the side of the road. It being council owned doesn't matter, as it could have been anything.
If it wasn't properly secured and blew into the side of your car, you'd have a claim, but if it wasn't moving, you're out of luck.
Thanks for the first helpful comment here. It's actually a green box next to a green hedge. As I say, I did know it was there (I was just further over than I thought) but it is right on the corner behind the hedge and someone who doesn't live round here could just as easily have hit it and would have never been able to see it unless taking a very weird wide turn. Anyway, I was thinking that as it has been deliberately put in the road for a purpose it is not meant for then that might sway it in my favour.
I have fully comp and 10yrs protected NCD so no big deal, just would prefer not to be forking out £250 excess if I can avoid it, but as you say prob I won't have much luck doing so.0 -

may I suggest a trip to specsavers
Parked cars are more than 1ft high and thus very easy to see. I didn't know specsavers now sell glasses that allow you to see through the interior of your car.0 -

You should have a car like mine. It's a top-of-the-range model, and it's fitted with this great new invention called "windows". I'm not sure if they're standard on all models, but I find them really quite helpful for being able to see the road ahead. Well worth the money if you're able to get them retro-fitted to your car, probably worth a trip to Halfords to see if they're available.0 -

But in the OP's case they're upgraded to tinted windows - a cost option on M3/Lexus/Yaris etc0 -

You have windows that go right down to the floor or the car? Never seen that on a car before. Mine only come down to about 3ft up from the ground which is fairly standard.0 -
Is it an age thing?
When exactly did people stop taking any responsibility for their own actions.
I can do no wrong, if i've done something wrong someone else must be to blame and must pay for my mistake/stupidity/negligence.0 -

Maybe a picture of said bin would help us understand the circumstances and offer more useful advice.
ETA: You could perhaps make sure your 911 is visible in the background. Maybe with the boat and caravan too?
EFTA: Chuck a packet of Bird's in there, while you're at it.0 -
