why does every thread on this forum decend into willy waving contests now? its one page of answers then usually several of schoolground "he said-she said" behaviour, it used to be a good place but now its just full of people spouting bovine fecal matter and trying to get one up on each other0

DM's threads don't decend they start with bovine fecal matter.0 -
[...] the honest answer would have been to say that he couldn't guarantee it. That's the point I would have walked away from the sale.
You would have been walking away from a LOT of sales in that case because of course the salesman can't guarantee it.
For all he knows you regularly drive the whole way at 5k revs in 3rd gear, power right up to every set of lights before emergency braking, and leave half your tyres behind every time you pull away.
Seeing as I average 45mg overall from a 1993 Pug 405 diesel estate (1.9 litre mechanical injection turbo) , if you really are getting "closer to 39" (as you said a couple of posts back) from a brand new 1.5l then you really do need to think about your driving style.0 -

+1
There are far too many threads being started by absolute newbies who have some "controversial" issue which they are taking a stance on and then they fan the flames that start to get people having a go at each other.
I've also noticed these "newbie" contentious threads popping up all over the place, not just the motoring boards so its spreading. Heres a couple that spring to mind -
=> "british jobs for british people" https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5451911
=> "are immigrants taking our jobs?" https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5448100
=> "under investigation for improper conduct" https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5447469
Clearly designed to be contentious with their content however the threads and the users are still active.
There are other forums whereby you have to be a member a certain length of time, or can only reply to threads already started until you've built up a certain amount of responses.
If the mods cant / dont / wont moderate the threads / newbies joining (why cant I/P addresses be checked automatically?) then maybe they need to put in those sorts of parameters?0 -

Well it slipped from 50mpg to 39mpg in a matter of hours, so they're probably getting 25mpg by now....0 -

I was told them by the salesmen in the dealership I would get up to and around 70mpg on my commute.
If those were the salesmen's exact words, it could be correct.
On part of your commute you may achieve 70 mpg, but on other parts significantly fewer mpgIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

I get that in my Clio 2.0 197 - though i'm not complaining. I dont begrudge it a penny of that.

mate I think you have no legal case , anything i think will be hearsay as far as what the salesman has said ?? why not buy a pushbike ? or would you want the salesman to promise you about tyre wear ratios ???0

If you read the whole thread you will see they were desperate for another car for the work run and now don't need the car because the employer has moved to within walking distance. The mpg is a red herring as they are now desperate to be rid of the car as they don't need it.
They have no right to get out of this contract without suffering some sort of financial loss so should get real and stop telling porkies.0
