Oh no. We're all going to die early because we're not in the EU. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Curiously, the 2 European nations with the longest life expectancy are Iceland and Switzerland. Can anyone suggest what these two countries have in common? If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.0 -

...
Probably the Wikipedia page 'List of sovereign states in Europe by life expectancy' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sovereign_states_in_Europe_by_life_expectancy) which does show Iceland and Switzerland at the top.
However, that is sourced from World Bank data (http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SP.DYN.LE00.IN) which clearly shows Spain at 83, ahead of Iceland at 82. Someone probably transcribed the data incorrectly.0 -

The original point was the rather dubious implication that European countries outside the EU have a greater life expectancy than those within.
For what it is worth the WHO 2013 raw data is:
Switzerland 83.13744
San Marino 83.0731
Italy 82.86323
Andorra 82.65301
Spain 82.6227
Israel 82.4614
Iceland 82.43079
Luxembourg 82.16427
Monaco 82.15714
France 82.01347
Which despite Wikipedia, does put Switzerland at the top - I think it is all that yodelling.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
I have just spent two weeks in London on holiday.
My wife and I both noticed the large number of non British workers in the customer facing part of the restaurant/hospitality industry. We estimate numbers differently. My wife says "not one British" I on the other hand thought there were some. The places ranged from John Lewis, through Byrons to a famous TV chef's Resteraunt.
We must assume these are EU nationals who have take advantage of free movement within the EU.
After Brexit, over the course of a few years, these people will return to their own countrys giving up the accommodation they occupy and the jobs and accommodation will be taken by Brits.
All I now want to know.
Why didn't Brits have these jobs before.
I have my own ideas but not living in the UK my opinion is less accurate than those other posters who live here.
Leaving the EU will either bring a huge opportunity to unemployed British people or a disaster for the Hospitalty industry.
Looking forward to your ideas.
ThanksThere will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
UK would lose two pharma bodies in event of Brexit. The European Medicines Agency, which regulates the safety and quality of drugs in the EU, is based in Canary Wharf with more than 600 full-time staff. It is the biggest EU body headquartered in Britain.London is also set to be home of the pharmaceuticals division of the Unified Patent Court. This will make EU-wide rulings on intellectual property disputes after its launch, scheduled for next year.Lawyers and regulators said they expected both institutions would go in the event of a vote for “Brexit” in the June 23 referendum.Don't blame me, I voted Remain.0

People like Clapton's offspring will take these positions, earn vast wages and they'll easily afford townhouses in Chelsea and Kensington. A win-win for all. :rotfl:Don't blame me, I voted Remain.0 -

It's good to see that the european medical agency provides a a good salary plus a 50.7% london weighting as well as other benefits like expat allowance and education allowance for children.
One would assume nothing less.0 -
