    Hi
Has anyone had this - I stopped taking the pill in March and had one normal period about a month later. Was thinking all was back to normal straight away but this month, no period, just very light spotting, no need for tampon or pad, just the odd liner. Is this normal? I feel like I've got period pain and usual period-style dull aches but that's it. The spotting has carried on for around 3-4 days but not got heavier at all.
Any advice or is this quite normal?

Also forgot to say, so the cheap pregnancy tests in savers and the like actually work? I saw one for 69p the other day but was a cynical.
Would be nice to find them cheaper than £5 'cause I have a feeling I will be testing alot, am too impatient! lol!!!

  • Hi all
Feel a bit of a fraud posting on here as I'm 43 and have four children already aged between 20 and 6 - however dh and I experienced a missed abortion in October and are currently "seeing what happens". I'm no longer on the pill and af is due tomorrow, I feel pregnant - big boobs, fuzzy headed, sicky, metalic taste but in my impatience I've done two tests, Wednesday 1st wee and today an hour ago and both were negative. In all my previous pregnancies I've never tested earlier than my af due day - age does not necessarily instill patience and wisdom -lol! I think my body may be playing tricks though cause I also have that low, feeling of imminent af - since puberty af has always arrived on a Saturday - no matter what. Sorry for the epic! Basically I'm just curious if anyone has tested prior to af and got a positive result and is there still hope for a silly old woman.
    Thanks

I had this. When I stopped taking the pill I had a 'normal' AF the following month, then nothing for about 8 weeks, then had AF (waaaay much heavier than I'm used to), then was 8-12 weeks between each following AF, now it's been 10 months off the pill and still not anywhere near back to normal. Occasionally in between AF's I'd have a day or two of really light spotting. In the run-up to AF I'd also get spotting every other day for about 6 days.
The doctor said it is quite normal after coming off the pill and means the body is just taking its time to re-adjust to a cycle, which can take around a year.

I've been using an ovulation predictor kit to try and work out when AF is due, but still doesn't help as last AF appeared when apparently I didn't show as ovulating!!

The first few months I took hpt when I 'thought' AF was due as hadn't had anything for well over a month, but nowadays I know it could be 12 weeks til my next one so I won't bother testing until 12 weeks has passed.

Ladies I'm after a bit of advice and not sure this is the right place to post as it's not me TTC but this seems like its as good as any
I have a close friend who has been TTC her first child now for a year and half - she is 36 (37 this year) and has a history of polycystic ovaries.
She doesn't mention it much and when the subject has come up I have suggested ovulation tests to check she was ovulating (which I then went and brought for her) and she remarked to me at the time that she hadn't considered there was 'a right time to concieve - i.e. ovulation' which I found bizarre for someone TTC - she is very casual about it and says if it happens
    it happens
I have suggested going to the docs a number of times but don't want to push it - she says that she can't imagine being without kids at the age of 40 but that's only 3 years away - I'm worried that she's leaving it too late to get help

I wondered if I was a bit OTT when I was trying as I had a missed abortion at 11 weeks and was then rather obsessive about it however I was fortunate and concieved next cycle - however looking at your posts I see that the majority do ovulation tests, temps etc
I know everyones different and I don't want to keep on at her if a baby isn't really what she wants but I'm worried she's sticking her head in the sand and will regret it later (her H/B is younger than her and seems to assume they will be having children in the plural)
My guess is she doesn't want to go to the docs as this will be admitting she needs help and then HB will have to be informed
what could she expect if she does go to the docs? - i.e. will he arrange fertility tests?
I can't think of anything else other than establishing ovulation that she could do herself

I know many of you will think I am interfering but I really have her best interests at heart - if she doesn't want to concieve then fine but I know she has no other close females to talk to about it and I'm getting to the stage where I'm thinking of mentioning the docs again

Sorry for such a long post and don't want to distract from all those TTC - good luck and babydust to you all x ;)

I have a close friend who has been TTC her first child now for a year and half - she is 36 (37 this year) and has a history of polycystic ovaries.

She needs to go to the GP - they'll do a blood test for her to see if she's ovulating. If she's not, then they may consider clomid, or may arrange other tests. Either way, she needs to go now...
