Kathy I'd be really interested to know what you think of the book (or anyone else that may have read it!)

I too am waiting for my copy of tcoyf to arrive. I borrowed a copy from the library and couldn't put it down for few weeks I had it so decided to buy the new edition. The subject is Fertility Awareness method (FAM) and it is much more than a basic "how to" for charting - although it has that in great detail as well. Also not just for ttc but also FAM for natural contraception (not to be confused with the notorioulsy unreliable rhythm method) - perfect for those thinking about ttc in near future, so you get to know signs. Also how to check for returning fertility after breastfeeding as well as special sections on ttc while suffering PCOS and lots of ways to help docs diagnose any fertility issues early on (not ovulating, short luteal phase, repeated early miscarriage). Even for someone not intending to do the charting, there is still a lot of useful infomation which may help ttc.

Watch out though if you are buying, the new edition was not easy to find in UK shops.

More book info and excerpts on website, but below is the summary.

    http://tcoyf.com/library/tonibook.asp

Taking Charge of Your Fertility has helped literally hundreds of thousands of women achieve pregnancy, avoid pregnancy naturally, or simply gain better control of their health and lives. This book thoroughly explains the empowering Fertility Awareness Method, which in only a couple of minutes a day allows you to:
    • enjoy highly effective and scientifically proven birth control without chemicals or devices
    • maximize your chances of conception before you see a doctor, or expedite your fertility treatment by quickly identifying impediments to pregnancy achievement
    • increase the likelihood of choosing the gender of your baby
    • gain control of your sexual and gynecological health
    This expanded new edition includes:
    • a revolutionary new, fully intuitive charting system
    • numerous new master charts, including separate ones for birth control, pregnancy achievement, and menopause
    • the latest on fertility conditions and high-tech treatments
    • comprehensive tables that clearly summarize fertility-related drugs and procedures

AF is due and on her way, I know this because I am spotting (which is usual) I also have a faint feeling of period pain.

Now what isn't usual (and has never happened in our 4 years of TTC) is that even though I know AF is on her way I have an urge to do a hpt  I have never ever had this urge before when AF is due, I only get it when I'm late.

Its just ridiculous....as I type this now I can feel the low down tugging type discomfort of AF.
    Whatever's going on
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:
  • I always want to do a hpt jus in case, very often I do one, BFN, then AF appears about an our later.
Well we went to see our consultant yesterday he has prescribed a 3 mth course of tamoxifen for OH as he thinks this will give his hormones a boost as the FSH levels were low. So we do that for 3 mths, then all the tests again, if the results are much improved they may put me on clomid, if not, he's going to start us on ICSI asap.

  • Thanks skintbutsmiling01, I do feel bad that all I seem to do nowadays is rant - when did I become such a moany old cow?!?!

Kathy72 & ClaireRL - I bought TCOYF when we first started trying (seems like another lifetime ago now - arrgh!) and I realised from lookijng at various websites that I really didn't know what was going on in my own body every month - seems really weird to think of it now. I think this book should be part of 'sex education' at school (mine was totally useless - I recall they started by 'explaining' periods, tampons etc - to a class of 13 year old girls, most of whom were already old hands at TOTM!), and if we eventually succeed in having a child, esp. a girl, I will def. use it to help explain what's going on.

Well - today's update on me....I finally spoke to clinic yesterday afternoon and we agreed to 'chemically control' this cycle, starting from CD19 - ie. Friday - with the injections etc. just like an IVF cycle (IFKWIM - if not then I am happy to enlighten with the whole process....). Then I tested last nite and - got a smiley face! (Clearblue digital). Tested again this morning (am supposed to do 8.00am and 8.00pm) with an 'old fashioned' Clearblue and got 2 equal lines - Yippee!
Spoke to nurse, who said they will go with today's test - BTW FYI- she said that the ones with the lines are better than the Digital (AARRGGHH!!! - I couldn've saved £3 had I known...) as you can tell more accurately if the lines are fainter or equal to the control line.
So we're going with today being OV day, as the lines were equal this morning.

Fingers crossed now that the frozen embies defrost successfully. They reckon on 50% success rate and we have 3, so really hoping that we beat the odds and get 2 viable ones - that is the most they will implant anyway - and if they are OK we are set for a Saturday morning implantation.

OMG - I am excited and scared in equal measure I think - butterflies in my tummy, feel queasy and I can't eat. Not sure if I am going to giggle hysterically or cry at any moment. So scared that we'll have another ectopic (although I know the odds are very very small) or equally that they won't implant at all and I'll be bitterly disappointed. How am I going to get through the rest of the week without going MAD???!!!!!!!
The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"
..."Mind yer a*se on the step!"
TTC with FI - RIP my 2 MC Angels - 3rd full ICSI starts May/June 2009 - BFP!!! Please let it be 'third time lucky'..... EDD 7th March 2010.

Aww I'll keep everything crossed for you. How soon afterwards do you find out if it's been a success? It must be stressful for you I can't imagine it, but I hope all goes well. :D
