Occasionally my body plays tricks on me and I don't get the spotting at all, just come on suddenly to full blown AF. Its very frustrating. At the moment my cycles seem to change with every month.

I'm exactly the same - every now and again it takes me by surprise. TMI I know but I usually get the spotting after a 'no.2' and I've not seen that even this morning, which is really surprising.

I know my boobs stop hurting the moment AF starts, so I keep prodding them (goodness knows what my office colleagues must think!!). They still hurt, but I'm almost scared to go to the loo... just in case!

    Positive thoughts to us all...

Haven't been on for a bit but just read the various posts about vitamins etc. I can highly recommend a book called the Fertility Diet by Sarah Dobbyn, she goes into great detail about what is good to take etc and especially what foods to eat or avoid depending on what conditions or problems you may have. It's well written and scientifically backed up with recent research (book came out in May). DW and I have been following it for a month now, both of us have lost weight and are feeling much healthier for it.

As DW has very long and irregular cycles (previous 3 have been 102, 46 & 140 days) from the start of this cycle she followed what it said in the book about foods to help PCOS etc, and had a 'normal' 26 day cycle which has taken us completely by surprise. Clearly there may be many other factors at work but if the next couple of cycles are normal then it might be down to the diet.

From a male perspective, it'll be interesting to see if I have another analysis whether it has produced improved results - on advice in the book am taking a multi-vit plus 1000mg vit C in addition to eating certain foods, particularly those that are zinc rich. Zinc is very important for sperm production and regulation, us men can lose up to 5mg of zinc per ejaculation so replenishing supply is vital! Plenty of foods are zinc rich so no need to take more than 15mg a day in supplement form apparently (too much can be toxic), rest can be gained from nuts, seeds (eg pumpkin, sunflower) veg (eg avocado, olives, squash, sweet potatoes) meat and particularly shell fish. Bad news is that alcohol destroys zinc so you may need to break that to your OHs gently. As it takes around 70 days for sperm production it's important to maintain a healthy lifestyle over a sustained period of time. Yes, I have given up booze but am consoling myself with the fact that it hopefully won't be for long! Reading the book has been a bit of an eye opener and has certainly made me take responsibility for the health of my little troops and given me added incentive to refuse that nice cold pint or glass of wine no matter the temptation. If you suspect that fertility problems could be an issue with one or both of you then I'd highly recommend you and your OH reading the book - if you just want to try and maximise your chances it's worth the read anyway.

Clearly some people have no problem getting pregnant even on the big mac and stella diet but for those of us who have been going at it for a while all things that may help are worth trying!

    Thanks for the recommendation.
A cousin of mine was told years ago that she would never have children as her cycles were pretty much non existent, she had an AF once, maybe twice a yr.
She got herself a couple of books and started eating or cutting out what the books said. After a few months she was having regular AF's but wasn't ovulating. Admittedly she did go on medication for the ov but the doctors had written her off totally and she had to get herself to the position of having AF, nothing was recommended to her. Now she has a little boy and another baby on the way.

She lent me the books once but it was too soon after my first mc and I just wasn't interested.
Now I have been told to lose weight to get onto the IVF waiting list I think i'll get myself a book or 2 to go alongside my cutting down and exercise. Hopefully what with losing weight and getting on the Clearblue trial I won't need the IVF in the end :D
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:

Shelly - thanks for sharing the story about your cousin, it's always good to hear when doctors are proved wrong!

Hello, well I was brave and went to the docs this am, as I said I would. Bit of a waste of time really, but hey ho, she was a bit rude. Good job that as being a nurse I'm used to docs with a bit of attitude!I mean if I'm told to get there for a yearly review, then what does she expect?! A telephone review or something??! Tut, tut!
I was told stuff that I already know the answer too already- that I'm not allowed to TTC until my neoro says so, as I have to be weaned off my meds. Anyhow, I've phoned up the neuro secretary who on the other hand was very lovely and said she would let my Consultant know that I want to get the wheels in motion! She's taken my phone number and will get back to me once he's seen the message :) He's lovely. Quite dishy actually, lol. Looks like that Consultant on Holby City, Linden. Phwoar! .....
Right, must remember I'm engaged now! Ha haaaaaaaaaa! xxx

Meltrix - you sound like the perfect husband!!! I think I might find that book and wave it under DH's nose... getting him to take his viatmins is one thing, but convincing him to even cut back on alcohol (not that he drinks excessively) is more than a mission!

I know what you mean!!!! Mine wouldn't even take the vitamins on a daily basis. He doesn't drink much, maybe a beer occasionally...

Hmm, think DW would disagree - i let myself down by being unbelievably untidy!:D Giving up alcohol is hard but as we're both doing it it makes it easier - oh and avoiding the pub helps!

One of the other big incentives for us is to stop the endless 'so, what about the patter of tiny feet?' questions from friends/relations that you seem to get after a year of marriage. Too much longer and i'll run out of ways to change the conversation...

We don't get that too much from friends - we have recently sold our house and both changed jobs, so we are using that as an excuse( no one knows we ttc). Onthe other hand, OH's mum 2 days after the weeding said that I have to start taking folic acid (good think I didn't understood as she didnt speak english to my husband - complicated, we are both of different nationalties and met in UK, our only comon language). Oh, and my parents are giving hints. I just shrug it off and say we can't as I have jsut changed the job and we are renting a smallish flat that we can hardly fit in ourselves (oh, and the garage is stuffed as well). So, I need to get some timeunder my belt in this palce, we need to buy a house and then we will think about little feet.

That is just a mask though - we are ttc and we don't want any questions. We have been ttc for 10 months now, wo hopefully in the next 2 months :p (you know, most coples concieve within 12 months...)

Hi Helen - Ov occuring on day 14 is a myth. It is probably about average but can vary wildly from one person to next and from one cycle to next. But you do count from first proper day of AF. If you have approx. 30 day cycle and you don't know when you ov I would assume it could be anywhere from day 9 to 10 days before AF. Good Luck!

Is it best I buy an ovulation testing kit when Im ready to ttc or is taking temperature reliable enough?
Also..is there anyone on here trying to concieve a certain sex of baby? If so what are your methods? My OH would like a daughter (my daughter is from a prev relationship) so thought it be worth a go,but obviously we wouldn't be upset if we were to concieve a boy.
    Helen x
love my little man he is amazing :j
