Luckily (or not) it will take quite a few months before the Turkey-EU refugee deal collapses on it's ample 'arris. The can will be easily kicked well beyond the referendum.
That's the thing about fudge and warm countries. It melts.
I notice the EU politician calls to redirect 10% of the budget to deal with the crisis. Throwing money at these sort of things has always worked. I mean , it's worked with Greece right?0 -

I was just wondering where the OP was with his/her original thought re Turkey joining the EU.
FYI it's Aris as it's rhyming slang: Aris => Aristotle => bottle => bottle n glass => Arsenal (without the nal).
Not trying to be mean, it's just that everyone gets Aris wrong and I'm on a mission.0 -

Lol.
Do you realise how many thousands of people I am going to have to apologise to now?!
...I best scrap my bank holiday plans...
I kinda assumed it was 'arris , short for Harris paint brushes, which everyone knows are sh**e.
Yours is much too clever.0 -

This is not being discussed at present.
There will be no impact on the UK.
Britain will retain all the same controls over it's borders for Turkish citizens after October as it does today.
The heading of this thread is a blatant untruth, meant to mislead and confuse. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

There was some solid research published about a week ago with top line results and discussion in the Hurriet Daily newspaper (Turkish news in English).
Only about 20% of Turks are positive about the EU refugee deal. About 40% of Turks don't even want to join the EU. Just shy of 70% of Turks don't think Turkey will ever join the EU, whatever they want anyway.
Separately, Erdogan has repeatedly stated he doesn't trust the EU to grant membership. He's been very clear that Turkey will not compromise on the conditions as yet unmet. Merkel in turn has been speaking very publicly in the German press of her "grave concerns" regarding the Turkish government's policies....which are actually moving rapidly away from those one might expect a government who was genuinely keen to join that great liberal socialist state called the EU.
I have absolutely no idea how anyone can believe Turkey is close to joining the EU.0 -
So the Turks don't want the EU and the EU doesn't want the Turks yet Turkey is going to be a member of the EU by October. Apparently.0
