Under investigation for improper conduct. Should I resign?

Hi,
Today I was suspended from work (with pay). The reason for the suspension being an investigation by head office due to a report of improper conduct.
My manager has been suspended along with me. I'm not going to lie, the report is true. We have been having an affair for years and my manager has been giving me an advantage over my peers. Promotion, overtime, business trips.
We've been taking the !!!!. Should I resign to save the embarrassment?

Resigning wont help, the investigation will still carry on.
Criminal charges may follow0 -
Nothing we have done is criminal. I was simply favoured over my peers for my romantic involvement with her.0

So business funds were spent on you and her... That's fraud.0 -
Cling on to it for as long as possible, in the meantime you should both find new jobs.0

Think of the poor s0ds who had to come to work each day knowing their promotion (that they needed/deserved) was brushed aside as the Manager's "bit of stuff" got it.
You've robbed hard working people as well as the company.0 -
The business trips were legitimate. I was chosen to attend with her, although we did use them as a method to be alone together without her husband becoming suspicious.
I was due a promotion anyway. The overtime was a reward for my excellent work ethic.0 -

..... then you've nothing to worry about.....
However the reality is:
The business trips were probably not legitimate
She probably suggested you attend
You were due a promotion because of her say so
Your 'excellent' work ethic (and all your ethics) are facing some scrutiny now
You've already offered to resign. Frankly criminal charges should apply.0 -
@PasturesNew nobody has been robbed. I work harder than any of my peers. If you work hard you deserve a promotion.0

Oh the irony!0 -
I'm not sure you deserve any help given your lack of recognition of the consequences of your sordid little affair, but I would suggest that you start negotiating a compromise agreement to get yourself at worst a neutral reference. If it gets as far as you being sacked, which I think is pretty likely, then a bad reference is what you can look forward to.0
