Official Trying to Conceive - Thread 13

Clomid alone isn't always the answer Snowbird. I have PCOS and before I was given clomid my partner (husband) had to have a sperm assessment as there was no point treating me if there was no chance of pregnancy. I also had to have a test to check that my fallopian tubes were clear.
Only 6 cycles of clomid are usually allowed for health reasons. I conceived on cycles 2 and 4 but there is a higher than normal chance of miscarriage with PCOS and I m/c both pregnancies. After cycle 6 it was decided that rather than move on to further treatment I would be allowed one more cycle because I had previously conceived. On cycle 7 I was given extra hormone treatment from the date of ovulation in order to help my egg to mature and to support any possible pregnancy. Cycle 7 worked and I had a successful pregnancy.
There are a lot of reasons why a person can't just get clomid pills and take them. They don't always work anyway because PCOS is a complex disorder. It sounds as though the person that you are helping needs to start assisted conception with a private specialist who will decide the correct treatment and monitor your friend properly.
Her husband refuses to take part in any assisted conception, so the sperm assessment would be totally out of the question. Apparently he would be entitled to assisted conception because he is a UK citizen, but if the problem is with her, then its a no go. The GP says the evidence points it to being a problem with her, but he cannot say for sure. Husband will not even go to the doctors with her. That is why I am having to help.
I know it is terrible, but there is not a lot I can do about husband.
There is no way she would be able to pay for this privately.0 -
Does the husband want a baby? Seems strange that he wouldn't help his wife if they both want a baby.0

Hello HopHop I hope you and little one are doing well. Sorry to hear about your loss, fingers crossed for number 2 soon. I had a very early loss/ chemical before DD and just jumped straight back in.
Had some CM today, so hopefully something is brewing. Wondering if I should get some OPKs.0 -
Good luck for testing tomorrow Skimper.0

Thanks rambosmum, I tested this morning as AF was due, it was negative.
Had a hint of pink tonight when I wiped so fully expecting AF to turn up, which has completely floored me.
I know it 'could' be implantation but I highly doubt it. I'm not sure I can carry on doing this.0 -
I'm not sure I can carry on doing this.
My first child was an accident. We were supposed to be using the rhythm method, but we were obviously playing the wrong tune. Given that we had been playing the same tune for years I should have realised that I would have trouble conceiving.
When I wanted my second child it took us 18 months.
After a couple of months of trying I sensed there may be a problem so I went to the doctor and told her that we had been trying for much longer than that. Husband and I had a barrage of tests which said there was nothing wrong.
After I got pregnant I had an unusual miscarriage called a hydatitiform mole. So I had to have everything cleared away.
They told me that I should not get pregnant for a year as I had to be monitered. However, given how difficult it was to get pregnant for the first time I went ahead. It took around 9 - 10 months.
My lovely daughter is now the result of that.
She is now a junior doctor and is currently working in obstetrics!

Snowbird - weve been trying 17 months, and this week has been a cruel one for me. I was so sure all these symptoms would amount to something so for spotting to happen I was devastated. I'm not giving up, but Im gonna need a few days of self pity to get me through it.
I broke down to OH last night, I just couldn't stop myself from crying. I've had a good cry today too. I think it's going to take me a while to get over this one.
AF still isn't here but I've had light spotting all day, so I guess it will turn up in the next day or 2.
I've been reading about ivf and I don't think I want to go down that route, it sounds so invasive and so many drugs.
I've just ordered myself an Ava bracelet to track bbt, and I'm going to try my hardest to lose weight and see how we go.0 -
I read this thread sometimes in case I have anything useful to contribute given that it took 3 years and medical intervention to have my only son (I was widowed when he was 4 so there never was an opportunity for another try).
Skimper, the only month when I didn't have a single symptom was the month of my only viable pregnancy. Losing weight will help. I did slimming world for the 6 months before my final try on clomid and I'm sure that both the healthy eating and the weight loss played it's part. Have you had blood tests etc yet to see if your hormone levels are ok? Basal body temperature is useful. It is accurate enough that it enabled me to take the extra medication during my final round of clomid so that I had a viable pregnancy.
I had endometriosis so only one of my ovaries functioned when I took clomid. My left ovary was polycystic, bound with adhesions and scar tissue and never produced as much as a single egg during all of my treatment cycles. By the age of 48 I was well into the menopause. My doctor said that as my reproductive system had never really functioned as it was supposed to it had just shut down early.0 -
Cranky40, yes we've had tests and nothing wrong with either of us. I never get period symptoms and so when I has a week of feeling sick and sore back among other things, plus being late coming on, I let my guard down.
I'm going to focus on losing weight and eating better and hope that does something. I've got a Dr appointment booked in for 3 weeks time to see what other tests can be done/ a referral.0
