I believe with SA refunds, once your ITR has been submitted, it can take upto 3 weeeks for a refund to arrive, thats either via Cheque, or BACS.

Someone mentioned 5 weeks? Apparently if you make a payment to your SA Account whilst your refund is "pending" that can delay for upto 5 weeks

and, of course some refunds are spot checked as extra security measures. PAYE refunds should be issued if you phone and ask for one more or less straight away

Ok, so I have spoken to HMRC 4 times now. Every person I have spoken to has given me different answers. I believe that they are purposely told to fob everyone off
Filed on 7th, PENDING. I have now been told 1 week, 2 weeks, "standard" 3 weeks and 5 weeks.
One said it was under security checks, three said it wasn't.
I'm seriously considering sending THEM a "late payment fee" of £100, PLUS daily interest & further charges "PENDING" to see how they respond.
At least it will make someone in their office laugh :rotfl:

Yep still pending! They have however promptly managed to update last year's tax owed though. so showing the arrears from last year now, to make a payment now. Which was arranged for them to take out of this year's refund. Did ring and they said the case was closed now, compliance wise. She said they was pushing the payment through now. This was Monday. Amazing can have their bit updated within 2 days but the other way round, no chance.

to be honest though, if a previous year was under review, why would they refund you last years overpaid tax? Lets say you were due back £2000 from 15/16 but then tax of £2500 was due for 14/15 ... you'd be getting £2000 back, to then repay this, and another 500!?
  • No because the refund owed to us this year is a lot more than what is now owed from last year.
Once they deduct the new over due tax from last year of this years refund. we are still due a money. That's why they agreed to deduct the new over due and pay remaining the balance.
  • Still pending, still the same old drivel coming from advisors mouths they might as well be an automated service because you get absolutely no sense from any of them they are basically drones repeating the same rubbish and telling lie after lie to fob people off - I'm absolutely disgusted with the whole process!

We might as well forgot about them because we aren't getting refunds for a very long time if at all!

What extra security checks could. Possibly take so long seriously??? Iv done self assessment returns for the past 7 years nothing has changed in the way I'm employed IE self employed and nothing has changed with me so what on earth needs to be checked!?
  • Checked this morning still bank repayment pending , but my amount had gone down by about a grand , rang again to see what was happening and they said the money was deducted for national insurance , but should all be sorted now and money on the way soon ! But not getting my hopes up until the money is actually issued !
  • Still pending. Anyone else?

Security checks are not just to check you they are also to ensure an employee is not manufacturing a refund for themselves.

Office staff do not know when a repayment will be issued as the process is not completed in their office.
But callers get a tad upset if they are told we don't know'.So they make a guess based on information they receive about when other repayments have been issued hoping the caller hangs up without verbally abusing them.
