two tariffs are 16.24 peak and 9.53 off peak with a daily charge of 14.79

With an Economy 7 tariff if you do a comparison check you will find peak rates are around 12p/kWh and off-peak around 5p to 6p/kWh.

You also need to ascertain if all electricity is switched to off-peak rates at 04.30 to 07.30 then 1pm to 4pm then 20.30 to 12.30.

    Or

Just heating and Hot Water during those times.

9.53p/kWh is extortionate for off-peak, you would probably better off having a normal 24/7 tariff. In my area(Midlands) there are several tariffs with 24/7 electricity at under 10p/kWh; although converting to a decent E7 tariff would be cheaper.

right ok....................i was under the impression all electricity was cheaper at those specified times

when i get up in the morning my energy monitor is saying that at the current usage my bill should be £900+ per month (its southern electric energy monitor) it flicks between using 200 watts to 12kwh every say 15 seconds.................

You need to post your pictures on this site if you want help on this site - a postage stamp size image on screwfix is no use. Upload your pics to a hosting site and post the link as previously explained.

You have used almost as many units on your extortionate Rate 1 as you have on your extortionate Rate 2.

Running a wet electric central heating is the most expensive system but your unit rates are ridiculous!

The monitor display is meaningless for calculating cost.

I have the same monitor, when my 10kW electric shower is being used the monitor calculates how much electricity it would used if it were left on 24/7 for 31 days each month and that would be 7,440kWh or about £700 at my rates.

Your boiler appears to be 12kW - note: NOT kWh - and that stupid £900 is on the assumption that the heater was on 24/7. You must appreciate that because when most appliances are turned on they are not using electricity all the time. This is because a thermostat switches the power on and off. A good example is a fridge/freezer. If you looked at your monitor when just the compressor was running it might show 400 watts(0.4kW) and a cost of around £40 a month. However the majority of the time the thermostat has switched off the compressor because the correct temperature has been achieved; so a more realistic cost would be around £3 a month.

Conversely if you looked at the monitor when the compressor was not running it would show no consumption and zero cost per month.

    Edit
The answer to your last question is yes the boiler will switch on/off itself by the thermostat if the water is not up to the required temperature(obviously on during the times when heating/water are switched on.)

thanks for that...........................i may just be floundering here but...........

calculating my usage the house uses 64 units per day 31 on rate 1 and 33 on rate 2 (i have been here 434 days up to 31/3) going by the start reading taken on Jan 2015 and last reading 31/03/16

    how can
2 hours of heating in the morning 5am til 7am
2 hours of hot water in the morning 5am til 7am
2 hours heating in the afternoon 2pm til 4pm
    1 hours heating 9pm til 10pm

    (all within the cheaper rates)

how can this add up to 60+ units per day of electricity

which at current bill is £263+ per month

It appears your electrical boiler is 12kW. For that to be on 7 hours it could, in theory, use 84kWh(7 x 12) a day all by itself. However it quite obviously wouldn't use that much as the thermostats for the Hot Water and Heating would switch off the supply for much of the time. How long the supply would be off will depend on several factors e.g. how hot is the water? how warm are the rooms? insulation properties of the flat?

It is pretty obvious that your heating is coming on outside the off-peak timings as it is virtually impossible to use 14,608kWh peak consumption in 14 months without any being used by heating/hot water.
